While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

I will be sorry to see Numbers go as it was the only thing worth watching on a Friday evening. Although the writing was weak at times, the Star power and the, at times interesting mix of justice and science carried things along. What would have helped the show is a solid sense of direction with an ongoing story-line, such as an ongoing Antagonist or character evolution (not devolving as in Larry’s case or worse, stagnancy). Numbers is the equivalent of a sports team ready to win, but they’re in need of a great coach to get them there. Hire… Read more »
I really enjoy this show. It has become one of the few shows on “Hella, uh, hum,.. television that I can tolerate and watch with some interest and intrigue. My wife actually likes it and when we saw another Jerry Bruckeheimer show, Miami Medical come on Friday night, we both looked at one another like… “Oh no they didn’t!” Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back
I have enjoyed watching numb3rs since it started and if you cancel the show it would be like shooting yourself in the foot. If you don’t want it let someone else have it, or better yet get rid of the reality shows. Friday night was something I looked forward to. It shows how family and friends can do things with love and dignity.
I love numbers and am very sad to think CBS would cancel such a great show. I too am sick to death of the so called reality shows, which I refuse to watch and need something more stimulating like numbers. Please don’t cancel it AND stop playing games with the cast. The rotation of the supporting cast makes me crazy…Keep Colby and lose one of the girls.
Please don’t cancel the show Numbers. It is a wonderful show.
I have really enjoyed the TV show and would be saddened if the show was cancelled. It has a way of capturing my attention unlike other shows of fluff and reality based shows. I would hope CBS would consider keeping it on the air.
I hope they renew it. I never miss it.
I look forward to Numbers on Friday night. Your new medical show is mediocre at best. Bring Numbers back.
I enjoy this show and hope they will renew it. I watch it every week.
I have watched Numb3rs since the beginning. I look forward to Friday nights and thnk it would be a mistake to cancel the show.
I would like to see more Numb3rs.
Numbers has a higher level of content than so many shows of today. The family connectivity and banter contributes to the enjoyment. Please bring back Numbers next season. I will admit that some of the writing did suffer in the latest season – perhaps that contributed to the lower ratings.
I agree with bobby – it really is a good show – not like the other junk on TV. We, too, look forward to it on Friday night. I think it needs to continue into a 7th season for many reasons. It is a high quality show – unlike what else is out there.
My wife and I look forward to this show each week, the family dynamics make it a unique show. While watching other police dramas, CSIs , Law & Orders, etc. I always say They need a Charlie Epps to solve the case. It’s funny how other mindless crappy shows continue.
Numbers is one of the best shows on. I am sick of the so-called “reality” shows! There aren’t very many regular shows that both my wife and I enjoy. Keep Numbers – get rid of the mind-numbing shows!
