While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

Great show. One of the best. We haven’t missed one yet. I hope they keep it going. There seems to be a lot of places for the script to go.
please don’t cancel numbers its the only thing on friday night to watch. it has a great cast and it makes you think something a lot of people don’t do anymore. if a problem on friday night move to another night and time.
Numbers is a great show with wit and personality and should continue.I think the same for Without a Trace.
I enjoy the show and the use of math and logic. I also enjoy the locale and the characters. It would be a shame to cancel it.
They are still hinting at putting CSI:New York, CSI:Miami and Numbers on the chopping block. The head of CBS should be put on the chopping block and have a new one with more brains. The one in charge now has no idea of what the majority of the public watch. I think he listens to the minority who thrive on Reality shows and the like. Those shows are no more Reality than someone’s dreams. CSI:Las Vegas has really made a great recovery since Grissom left. I thought it might be canceled but luckily the skilled actor who replaced him has… Read more »
I have been a fan of the show since it started. I’m not a big fan of the newest female cast member (don’t know her name, the one that used to be on Shark), but I still watch it every week. I like the mixture of crime solving and personal story lines. I’d like to see both Charlie and Rob get married. Please keep the show going. It is also the only show I watch from the 3 major networks on Friday nights.
Numb3rs is a great show and I agree get rid of Ghost Whisper & Medium. Better yet move Numb3rs to a new time slot or a new day. Back to back ghost shows before the only good show on Friday night is stupid. Bring Flashpoint back before Numbe3rs and you’ll see your ratings go up!!!!
I have been a Numbers fan for quite some time. It stimulates the mind.
It’s a great show and makes you think. We are dumming down america with comedy shows and reality TV.
I will be very sorry to see this show end. I have really liked it since it started.
i would like 2 see it for one more season i love that show. i love who they solve srimes by Charlies math its a different way to solve crimes its not like all of the csi’s who solve the crimes the same way not that i don’t like csi i watch the ny one but numb3rs is different. i at least want to see charlie and amita get married next season
Don’t cancel it. The lead in shows are completely different than this show and I don’t watch the lead in shows because it hold no interest for me. I am sure that it is the same for the viewers of the 2 lead ins. Move it to another day…
The viewership is down because of the lead in shows – Medium and Ghost Whisperer need to go.
It would be a HUGE MISTAKE to cancel this show. It is one of the best shows on t.v., and I look forward to it EVERY WEEK. It is one of those shows- like the mentalist- where you can actually learn something. And it isn’t trashy like those reality tv shows. This show needs to be kept on the air!!!!
It’s certainly one of my favorite shows. Maybe it’s just a little too intelligent, makes people think. If there is any more pablum on TV I give up. For heaven’s sake don’t cancel.
