After endless commercials during the Olympics and lots of print ads, NBC’s Parenthood has debuted. The show has experienced several bumps on its journey to primetime but now it’s finally here and NBC has high hopes for the series. Will it be a hit?
Parenthood revolves around the extended and very colorful Braverman family of Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
Last night’s premiere debuted to an average of 8.1 million viewers with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That put Parenthood in second place in total viewers (behind The Good Wife) but in first place in the demo. There was also very little erosion of the audience during the course of the episode.
While it’s positive that Parenthood won its timeslot in the demo, the numbers are surely not as good as NBC was hoping for, especially considering all of the promotion. Still, considering the state of the rest on NBC’s schedule, this should be considered a victory for the ailing peacock network.
As per usual, we’ll have to see how many viewers return week after week to know if Parenthood has a real chance at survival. For now, things look positive.
What do you think? Is Parenthood worth watching or are you changing the channel? Cancel or keep it?

I guess keep it because so many people want family oriented dramadies, but damn,
I’m still waiting for something interesting to happen on the show.
so so. still waiting with hope, but I see no more than 2 seasons unless things pick up
as much as i like lauren graham, another family drama/comedy growing pains thingy is the last thing anyone needs
It is an amazing show!!!!! It needs to stay! But they really need to give it a different time slot!
keep it! do we need another bachelor or rich kid reality show?
Keep it for sure. I just described the show to someone as “intellegently funny”. Great story line, great acting, easy to relate to. I have a grandson with Asperger’s Syndrome and am delighted that the show is including this into it’s story line. If they take this show off the air, I might just stop watching TV altogether.
KEEP IT!
keep it, i cant wait till next week. finally, a good family show who really support each other. great actors and writers. i’ve been lost since “Monk” went off the air for good television entertainment.
Best new show I’ve sen in a long time . I will be making sure I watch every week.
KEEP this show!! I have seen my own family in this series and they need to continue this show for sure!!
Keep it – I actually really LOVE this cast! It’s got me! Plus Peter Krause is going to get a Ted McGinley complex if it is cancelled!
Please, please, please keep it!!! I get frustrated when all the good, quality shows that I absolutely love get cancelled. I loved this show from the very beginning and can’t wait for each new week!
It’s kind of a hard call for me because I love most of the cast and I don’t want them to be out of a job but the Pilot was slow and didn’t really grab my attention nor did it make me want to tune in next week. But I’ll give it a few more episodes and if there is no improvement I’m going to have to say Cancel.
Keep it! There is so much crap on TV that we need a good show that the family can watch together. I love how this family showed love and support of one another. Let us fall in love and support this show. Keep it NBC.
Terrible. Cancel please.
