After endless commercials during the Olympics and lots of print ads, NBC’s Parenthood has debuted. The show has experienced several bumps on its journey to primetime but now it’s finally here and NBC has high hopes for the series. Will it be a hit?
Parenthood revolves around the extended and very colorful Braverman family of Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
Last night’s premiere debuted to an average of 8.1 million viewers with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That put Parenthood in second place in total viewers (behind The Good Wife) but in first place in the demo. There was also very little erosion of the audience during the course of the episode.
While it’s positive that Parenthood won its timeslot in the demo, the numbers are surely not as good as NBC was hoping for, especially considering all of the promotion. Still, considering the state of the rest on NBC’s schedule, this should be considered a victory for the ailing peacock network.
As per usual, we’ll have to see how many viewers return week after week to know if Parenthood has a real chance at survival. For now, things look positive.
What do you think? Is Parenthood worth watching or are you changing the channel? Cancel or keep it?

This is the best show in years!! The cast and storylines are wonderful. FINALLY, something worth watching. I look forward to it every week. In a sea of reality junk, Parenthood is the only thing keeping me from throwing my tv in the trash. Give it a chance.
Love it!! Just as someone else said, “Parenthood puts a smile on my face”
KEEP IT!!
My daughter and I love this new show. We have been fans of Lauren Graham ever since Gilmore Girls and would like this show to make it.
keep it good family show give it a chance
Keep it! It’s a great show and its a little more grounded than ‘Brothers & Sisters’. I still like that show but some of the plotlines have become very soap opera. This is just straight up family stuff. Very entertaining.
Absolutely the best show in years ! I love the real life situations we all deal with, the cast is amazing, everyone seems like a perfect fit. Can’t wait for the next episode, any age can watch this series, families are loving it.
It must go in- Keep up the good work!
Oh Brian I couldn’t say it better!!
I love the show…it must go on!!
After Gilmore Girls was cancelled I started to lose hope. I thought that there would be no other show that puts a smile on my face whenever I see it. Parenthood brought back that smile!
Absolutely keep this series on– it is so real–better than any other ‘reality show’, love the actors– they are great together!!! This is so good for young families— all situations are true everyday life’s struggles. MUST GO ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE IT!
This show is awesome. As a mother of a child diagnosed with PDD (autism), it is a very realistic account of some of the things that the young actor with asperger’s syndrome deal with and also the families . (Brought me to tears, as he has a lot of the same characteristics as my 7 year old.) It would be a big letdown to see this show fail. Brings to light a lot of the situations that a family has to deal with not only with the young man, but with the other family members as well. Love this show.… Read more »
I happen to love this show. Not many shows come on these days with real content. This is about every day life and best of all NO REALITY. Please give it a chance!!!
LOVE this show!!!!
I loved it! I hope they keep this on. Every time a good show comes on worthy of watching it gets canceled. Please don’t cancel this. It has comedy and drama. An all around good feel to the show.
This show is amazing, one of the best ensemble casts on tv in a long long time. Quality show, with realateable subjects. I would be heartbroken to see this show not make it, I really love it.
