After endless commercials during the Olympics and lots of print ads, NBC’s Parenthood has debuted. The show has experienced several bumps on its journey to primetime but now it’s finally here and NBC has high hopes for the series. Will it be a hit?
Parenthood revolves around the extended and very colorful Braverman family of Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
Last night’s premiere debuted to an average of 8.1 million viewers with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That put Parenthood in second place in total viewers (behind The Good Wife) but in first place in the demo. There was also very little erosion of the audience during the course of the episode.
While it’s positive that Parenthood won its timeslot in the demo, the numbers are surely not as good as NBC was hoping for, especially considering all of the promotion. Still, considering the state of the rest on NBC’s schedule, this should be considered a victory for the ailing peacock network.
As per usual, we’ll have to see how many viewers return week after week to know if Parenthood has a real chance at survival. For now, things look positive.
What do you think? Is Parenthood worth watching or are you changing the channel? Cancel or keep it?

I think this show is so fantastic! I will be very dissapointed if it is cancelled.
I love this show I will be so disappointed if it is cancelled one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. I laugh and cry and hate when it’s almost over I could watch it for hours!!!!!
Love it! I sure hope it stays on the air for seasons to come!
Keep it!!! Please 🙂 I love it.
Keep it! I love the show! How can NBC get more viewers when they hardly promote it. It’s great to have something on TV besides Reality TV.
Please keep it on,,,,,,,,it is very true to real life families
I love this show! I come from a very small family with hopes of having my own large family in the future. This show allows me to connect to a group of people whom I wish were my own! Please don’t cancel this show!! I loved The Family Stone, and Parenthood allows me to “continue” that plot!
ps. love the icons!
I am a 25 yr old and i didnt think that i would like the show but when i watched it i thought it was one of the best shows i have ever seen on tv . What i like about it is that it shows their family going through the same problems as a lot of american families regardless of race or creed . I think if they cancel the show it would be a very big mistake. Like others have said on their comments people are tired of the same type of shows all the time. But i… Read more »
Keep it! We need to have entertaining “Drama” on tv with REAL people.
I am *TIRED* of “Aliens”, “Cops”, “Lawyers” and “Reality”…….. Bring back the people.
The cast is well blended and certainly act as if they are truly a family…
KEEP it!
Love the show, lots of people so there should be lots of story lines to keep it interested. Keep Keep.
It’s a keeper.
Not authentic or real. Boring I feel like I am watching a network formula…too dumb for me.
Great smart show. Keep. I am tired of mindless reality shows.
Well, Lisa, we know what *your* experience has been. As one well-connected with the AS, I have been warmed by the portrayal. No one parent is the same, and so it’s just one set of parents reacting. Are you saying that the way Max’s parents reacted is not authentic just because you experienced something different? Is their reaction completely implausible?
“alternatingly ?” hah hah hah
