Paul Reubens is currently rehearsing to play his iconic character, Pee-wee Herman, in a new Los Angeles stage production. The show is in part a revival of his original stage show from the early 1980s and his multiple Emmy award-winning children’s TV show, Pee-wee’s Playhouse. The stage production was initially slated to open in November but was delayed until January so that it could move to a bigger venue.
If you’re a fan of Pee-wee’s Playhouse but don’t live in Southern California, there’s still hope that you’ll be able to see the crazy characters again.
Reubens, as Pee-wee, recently shared details with MTV about his plans for a new movie. He said, “It’s already done, the script is already fully written; It’s ready to shoot.” Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie will be a family movie and, unlike Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and Big Top Pee-wee, it’ll revolve around the world of the TV series.
He said, “It’s not really the real world, it’s “Puppetland.” On Pee-wee’s Playhouse, on the television series, we never left the playhouse, we were always inside the playhouse… The movie is all out of the playhouse. There are two scenes in the playhouse, but the rest is out of the playhouse.”
You can watch the brief interview below.
What do you think? Would you like to see a return to Pee-wee’s Playhouse after almost 20 years?
I have serious doubts about anything PeeWee’s Playhouse without it’s original writer: Phil Hartman…. I know that John Paragon helped out on the writing too and was a good friend of Phil’s.. .perhaps he could help….
I hope Cowboy Curtis comes back….lol!!!!
