NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
I loved the show and I am very sad to see it go. I’m glad Kyle got another show though. But it just wont be the same.
A Great show, kept getting better and better. Wish I would returned. I had to watch online often though because of the 6:30 time slot. I hope they take that into account for the ratings.
Why can’t the networks give shows a chance?? My husband and I both loved this show. Laugh out loud funny. They all great chemistry and it was well acted. How annoying that they never ask us what we want? I find this so frustrating. Yet another great show lost in the shuffle. PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW ON!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO… I loved this show!!! It was light, funny and very enjoyable… PLEASE keep it on!
According to site called T.V. Hell, they have examples of 300 canceled quality series shows that didn’t reach mass audience base on the Nielsen Rating system. The goal of TV Hell is to let the Networks know of online eye site content expose the Networks and bring them back to the mother ship. Exposing the Networks with the sites like FaceBook, MySpace,Twitter and YouTube. Apparently with the fascination of the new age cell phones and internet entertainment, Television no longer the only place for home entertainment. According to Nielsen rating not enough of us r watching the tube anymore. Just… Read more »
Nooooo! My husband and I love this show! Maybe if they would have started it in the fall line-up and promoted it more…. Dang!!! There is so much crap on tv. I will be sad to see this one go.
BOO! As soon as we started watching this show and saw how funny it was, we knew NBC would cancel it! I hope a smarter network will pick it up………
This show is very funny and watching the Paul Reiser show they chose to replace Perfect Couples with is just bad and is a very, very poor substitute of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The best part of the series so far was when Larry David was on the show.
Add a ? to the end of the title. I like the show. But is there really a perfect couple?
I loved this show and hope it will continue. I don’t understand why the ratings are so low, I think the humor is excellent and overall this sitcom is not worse than Office, 30 Rock or Parks and recreation
This is sooo sad! This was is our favorite TV show on thursday nights. We liked it better than The Office, Community or 30 Rock. We even mimic the antics from the tennis episode on the courts.
Maybe NBC should sell its Kia Sorrentos to finance the four remaining shows!
I bet Cable Town would be a better steward of the network than GE!!
I’m really sad to see it go. I felt it was definitely the funniest show in the entire Thursday NBC comedy lineup. I looked forward to it all week! Bad choice NBC!!
We loved this show. It was quirky and witty and highly intelligent for TV. The “tennis episode” is a future cult classic! Did NBC even give it a chance? Is 5 showings, one of which was a rerun, a fair chance? I think when the cast does not include any well known faces, you have to give it a season or 2 to give it a proper chance. I think if they keep up with the writing they have a hit on their hands. All I have to say is, Seinfeld. The Seinfeld show did not rate well when it… Read more »
This show was eight different kinds of awesome. I still laugh my ass off watching reruns on my DVR. Of course those dipshit suits at NBC would cancel it.
I’m so sad to see this show leave. The first episode was the worst but it really took off from there. The following episodes were down right hilarious!! Can we forget the “Table Stand” and the “White Trash Off”? And now I have a reason to get a canoe. I now wish I would’ve DVR’s them all so I could keep them.
Perfect Couples is hilarious. I liked Mad About You, but the new Paul Reiser show isn’t that funny.
