NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
I strongly dislike bad shows and usually give a show a chance before I think it’s not worth watching. This show was brilliant. I laughed out loud, the characters were quirky like 30 Rock or Parks and Recreation. It was well acted and if NBC cancelled it due to ratings it’s probably because people are now watching their tv on Hulu an online. Not with a Nielsen’s box on a family’s set in Iowa. It should be continued. If not, it only solidifies my reasoning for canceling my cable and switching to online viewing of tv. The actors were amazing… Read more »
My wife and I really enjoyed this show! We had it on pvr and looked forward to watching it together every week. We are super upset that this show has been cancelled. It was the only decent show and it wasn’t raunchy or dirty like all the other shows. Honestly who the hell wants to watch Paul Reiser. Bring this show back you morons!
I loved this show and was so shocked when it wasn’t in the line-up.
Sad to see it go. Looked forward to seeing it every week. Big mistake NBC!!
This makes me want to cry! I love this show so much and it makes me so sad to see it cancelled. I usually watch it online because I’m busy when it airs. Please bring it back!
This show is a riot. Too bad it didn’t catch on.
Big mistake NBC… should have moved it to another slot first!

A true shame. We’re huge fans of comedy TV and this was refreshingly crisp and edgy — a show that you actually have to pay attention to and “get.” The pace of the humor rivals 30 Rock so I’m blaming the network for poor marketing and not placing it next to a show that attracts the right audience. So not surprised. Not that a few lone voices would make a difference but c’mon! Bring it back! Talented cast and writers!
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!
there are so many bad shows on now and this one is actually hilarious! i don’t get people if they’re not watching this. the only thing i can think of is that people are watching american idol and then switching over to NBC at 9:00, so that they have never even given perfect couples a chance! this show is way too good to cancel!!
I don’t know what demographic they are talking about. I thought this show was awesome and I’m pretty sad to see it go. I personally thought that NBC was owning thursday nights with all of their shows.
I loved this show! i think it definately had potential to be a good one so i am really upset to see it go! NBC please rethink this! paul reiser sucks!!!
I don’t know what all these people are talking about, this show sucked. The dialogue was terrible along with the jokes. Unoriginal and uninspired, so glad it is canceled.
Is there a protest site to bring it back? I mean, with the proper hype and thus new viewers, I’m sure this series would take off. We (wife and I) didn’t even know it existed until probably half way through the season and my brothers had never heard of it either until I introduced them to it…. and now we are all big fans.
Bring back Perfect Couples! Its style fit with the NBC Thursday lineup perfectly. And it had Olivia Munn. Gorgeous, witty, charming. And how dare they replace it with Paul freakin Reiser?! They already had a Paul Reiser show. It was called Mad About You! He’s had his time in the spotlight, and now he feels like a sadly old-fashioned comedian, similar to Jay Leno. I can picture him wearing a tuxedo and bowtie when he tells jokes.
this show is witty and funny, i like all the chracters. this F- ing sucks testicles. the mancave was one of my favorites.
