NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
I thought this show was really good. Sad to see it go. Hope they release at least the season 1 dvd set.
Ok. I don’t know what NBC was thinking. Are we serious right now. Perfect Couples was a fresh new show with some good comedic writing. The man cave episode and the tennis episodes were freaky hilarious. Bring it back. Bring it back.
I thought this show was hilarious, well written. How it got replaced by The Paul Reiser Show baffles me. Thursday night is our t.v. night of which our tube is on NBC for their back to back funny shows, then they throw in The Paul Reiser Show which does not fit, not funny at all, not near the level of humor as Perfect Couples. I guess we can turn the channel to CBS, or ABC and see what they are doing.
No! I think Perfect Couples is hilarious, well-written and well-acted. It was quickly becoming my favorite Thursday night show.
My boyfriend and I are very disappointed that Perfect Couples has been cancelled. We loved the crew and thought finally there was another funny show to watch thursday nights. One of the funniest ones on right now. Sad to see it go…..
I completely agree.
I LOVE this show! Don’t cancel it!
Loved this show. Bring it back.
How is Outsourced and Community better than this show??? Loved Perfect Couples! NBC please bring it back!
cummunity is great
Community IS great!
My husband and I are extremely disappointed to see Perfect Couples go! We looked forward to Thursday nights to watch it together; it was “our show”! As a newly married couple we were able to relate to the characters in various ways. It’s a shame that NBC finally created a descent sitcom and they have to get rid of it so quickly. Can’t they at least give it ONE more season for us devoted fans?
I loved this show, I do agree that Kyle Bornheimer wasn’t that good though. The rest of the cast and the premise was excellent. I was just getting into the show, but like most NBC sitcoms it will be cancelled. My Name Is Earl, Joey, Kat and Kim, Parks & Rec (almost), and many others to fill that slot were better than Paul Reiser or Outsourced. Bring back My Name is Earl, Joey, Perfect Couples, or any of those great shows!

LOVE this show. It just was not advertised enough or given enough time to catch everyone’s attention. NBC should reconsider.
AGREED
Seconded.
Agreed! I found the show on accident on Hulu.
Any show Kyle Bornheimer is in will ultimately fail. He is a horrible actor that always plays the same character. He is always difficult to watch. I feel embarassed for him all the time, It is uncomfortable to watch him. I am sure he might be a nice guy in real life but it is disturbing to watch him “ACT” in every show I have ever seen him in. The actors that surround him are often so much better but it would not matter how good the other actors are, Their talent will never be able to overcome the the… Read more »
We LOVE PC! I randomly came across it on hulu, I didn’t know it existed til then. I wish they would have advertised for it better, I’m sure it would take off and be another hit on the NBC Thurs. night block.
Boo Hiss Boo. Get your stuff together and market PC properly. most network tv blows and that,s why all intelligent viewers are moving to cable networks. Way to waste the efforts of a strong cast and great writers.
