Welcome to the class. Entertainment Weekly reports that the midseason return of ABC’s Quantico will feature three new NATs (new agent trainees).
The new castmembers will join lead Priyanka Chopra as Alex Parrish, a young FBI recruit training at the agency’s esteemed academy in Quantico, Virginia.
EW reveals that the new NATS will be from the class ahead of Parrish’s peers. They include “brainy Will Olsen (Jay Armstrong Johnson), cool and collected Iris Chang (Li Jun Li), and charismatic Drew Perales (Lenny Platt).”
Executive producers Josh Safran and Jake Coburn say the new characters will be a “good thing” for the back half of the first season:
One of the things that has happened in the back [half of the season], which I think is a good thing, is that characters are no longer required to play on both sides of the story. It’s almost like having two different shows that are tied together. … We feel like we have an abundance of riches with actors, but everyone really gets to shine in each episode.”
Safran added that the three NATs will function “as a whole”:
The fun is that Drew and Iris and Will have a bond that is very similar to Alex’s and Natalie’s and Nimah’s and Shelby’s. Priyanka calls [Alex’s crew] ‘The Powerpuff Girls,’ so it’s sort of like The Powerpuff Girls versus Dexter’s Laboratory.”
Quantico returns for new episodes on March 6th.
