What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on Freeform, Switched at Birth follows Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc) and Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano). Their lives are turned upside after Bay discovers that, as babies, they were sent home from the hospital with the wrong families. A family drama, Switched at Birth explores early adulthood, blended families, and deaf culture. It also includes scenes shot entirely in American Sign Language. In addition, the cast includes Lea Thompson, Constance Marie, Sean Berdy, D.W. Moffett, Lucas Grabeel, and Giles Marini. Marlee Martin guest stars.
Season Five Ratings
The fifth season of Switched at Birth averaged a 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 501,000 viewers. Compared to the fourth season, season five was down by 51% in the demo and down by 51% in viewership. Learn how Switched at Birth stacks up against other Freeform TV shows.

Telly’s Take
I must admit, when Freeform confirmed Switched at Birth season five would be the final installment — it surprised me. Even though its ratings fell in season four, the critically acclaimed drama is still one of the cabler’s top shows. I suspect Freeform decided to cancel (or end) Switched at Birth due to a combination of slipping ratings, diminishing returns, and because of the tone of the show. When Switched at Birth first premiered, the channel was still known as “ABC Family.” Since rebranding, Freeform has tried to promote edgier content.
In my opinion, that rebranding is the reason for the long delay between Switched at Birth‘s fourth and fifth seasons: Freeform didn’t know where the show fit. In addition, cast member contract options often expire after five seasons. A series renewal would probably require a new round of negotiations and hence, more money. Finally, Switched at Birth ran long enough to produce a good sized syndication package. All that said, while I’ve had my eye on this one for a while, I suspect chowing down on Switched at Birth will induce regret-fueled heartburn. RIP.

Please please bring it back we need a season 6 we need a way better ending. That just wasn’t enough for us. Season 5 wasn’t even a full season every other one had 20 episodes season 5 only had 10 episodes it wasn’t fair. I just finished it and I’m so hurt with how it ened. I really hope they reconsider and bring it back.
I really wish there would be more seasons this is the beat show I have seen in a long time
I’m sorry to see the series cancelled! Hopefully they’ll reconsider a season 6! If they do, Bay should either end up with Ty or Emmett, the others were good actors, but not a good fit! I would hope actually her and Emmett, they were the most profound fit!
There needs to be a season 6 and even more of Switched at birth. I could put my self in their place and feel what they felt.
My 3 daughters and I took turns gathering at each others homes to watch it together. It became our family tradition.
Bay and Emmett needs to get married. That would of been the best ending. Please bring it back.
I love switched at birth i think there should be a 6 season .i dont think five ended well at all i think it should be a 6 season to shoe bay and daffeney getting married .and i believe bay and eemet should have been togather in 6 season and they get married they are my favorite couple .i love this show please bring a 6 season back .it didnt end good at all.please bring back .
I am very unhappy theres no more seasions of switched at birth. Please create more session s this is the best show ive watched in a long time im very sad to here its ended I really wanted to see more. Very disappointed that it ended the way it did travis and bea should get married and Daphne i wanted to see her become a doctor its just ended way to soon.

Please make a Season 6. This show was life changing and the concept is so unique that I regrettably don’t understand why it would end at Season 5. You don’t come across series like this.
Love this show… please bring it back with Season 6! The ending of Season 5 just leaves so many unanswered questions.
im in the middle of season 4 right now and i just do not want to get to the end of season 5 because its just so amazing. the show has inspired me to learn asl on my free time and i feel as i have connected with the characters. i really wish they could make a season 6
I love this show i watched all 5 seasons three times i believe that theres so much more to see like if bay and emmett get back together or if daphne becomes a doctor .A season 6 would be great

I fell in love with this show and binged watched it in like a month. I would really love to see a season 6 season five was only 10 episodes and it left me dying for more.
I started watching switched at birth on Netflix, I loved it couldn’t stop watching it. It was a great drama and realistic show that tells of the experiences of non hearing people in a hearing world. And how everyone involved is also affected. I would love to see more especially as Carlton grows up and how Daphne becomes a Dr. Bay career as an artist, Travis and Bay’s relationship, Emmett and his photography..
So much more to explore.. hope they reconsider.
