FOX has decided to wrap their summer run of The Good Guys a few weeks early, on August 2nd. The network had previously planned to air original episodes of the Bradley Whitford / Colin Hanks series until August 23rd.
The series debuted to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. The numbers have essentially fallen each week and hit a low of a 1.0 rating and 3.42 million viewers.
Despite garnering poor ratings during the summer months, The Good Guys remains on the network’s fall schedule. Original episodes will return to FOX beginning Friday, September 24th. It remains to be seen how long that will last.
FOX has lower expectations for summer shows but it’s hard to believe that the network is pleased with the series’ performance. It seems that they’re keeping it on the fall schedule in hopes that viewers will tune in on Friday nights instead of trying one of the other networks’ new shows.
By the time Good Guys finishes its summer run, FOX will have aired nine original episodes. That will leave 11 new episodes for the fall. The real test will be to see if the network orders any more. Right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
What do you think? Do you like The Good Guys? Do you think it’ll last to see a second season? Should it?

Love the show. I was fortunate enough to work on the series as an extra. The director, cast, anf crew are all wonderful. I watch every week. Ot has the elements of the cheesy 1980’s cop shows but updated for the contemporary times. A nice break from the old reality garbage the networks keep feeding us.
#ONE, the young detective female’s (JENNY WADE) WIG IS AWFUL. & that really is a turn off, plus she can not act…AT ALL. #TWO, Love Tom Hanks, his son Colin just has a big shadow over him comparing him to a great actor. If they could just let him laugh a bit more.. his writers have him as a straight man.. but never allow him to be funny..that change could allow America to want to watch him! #THREE-BRADLEY WHITFORD IS A RIOT IN A COMEDIC ROLE- never knew he could be so funny after playing so many bad guys as… Read more »
LOVE THE SHOW!! Funny, original, well -written, great characters….TO CANCEL THIS SHOW WOULD BE COMPLETELY STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome show, I just found it…can’t believe dancing with the stars and all that other crap stays on if they take this off.
I really enjoy watching this show. Please don’t take it off the air!
We really enjoy the Good Guys. It’s not your average cop show. Please don’t cancel!
My girl and I are so disappointed about the evident cancellation of Good Guys. What a loss. We found it to be intelligent, witty and exciting! Not to mention, Dan Stark!!! What a guy! Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just found this show by accident on Hulu, it is laugh out loud funny. Takes the classic “seasoned veteran – by the book newbie” team formula for a self-deprecating joy ride with quirky relationships, clever dialogue and well paced story-telling. Bradley Whitford’s mustache, accent and mannerisms are terrific as supercop “Dan Starks”, Colin Hanks is a good “straight man” with a chip on his shoulder & doubts, and Jenny Wade is surprisingly attractive as Hanks’ love interest.
There are many, many scripted dramas on US TV that take themselves way too seriously and are humourless, contrived exercises. This show is a delight. It’s fresh with great chemistry between the two leads and Jenny is a wonderful third foil. Matt Nix has done a superb job following up Burn Notice with the funniest show on US TV for many years. For goodness sake, let this show develop and spread its wings for at least two more seasons. It could easily turn out to be a classic.
We’re crazy about this show. We make plans to watch it whenever it’s on. We have purchased episodes through ITunes. Please don’t cancel this show. We love Bradley and Colin.
We think the acting is great, the music is great and the stories are funny.
Keep this show on. There’s hardly any tv worth watching left. We’re sick of reality shows, and good, fun shows like this being cancelled without being given a fighting chance.
This is so much better than the constant deluge of dark criminal sadistic shows.
I personally loved this show. I hope it makes it to the regular season. The writing is hysterical. The ‘rewind’ technique to let the audience know what happend to lead up to the wierd scene that is currently showing is a blast. Lot’s of chases, explosions and still witty, quirky dialogue with a twist. Just plain old fun! The only possible weakness is how lame the writers are making him with his love interest. Other than that it is a blast.
The show is a blast. My husband just loves it. Hope someone picks it up if Fox doesn’t.
.
I think it hysterical! I believe the reason it hasn’t rated high is because it wasn’t properly advertised!! My son told me about it or I never would have seen it at all! I watch a lot of shows on FOX and never saw it advertised.
My wife and I think the show is quirky, funny, a blast really. But we like these kind of detective shows; personally I thought I’d find the show on USA, “where characters are welcome.” I hope someone takes the show on, ’cause it’s funny and witty.
I think the show a blast, good humor, the faces, pacino impression, im not sure everybody even caught it; it was freakin hilarious! I hope they keep it its bound to build a huge fan base, Im just not much of a fan of reality tv, the shows classic for me, I hope they let it run.
