FOX has decided to wrap their summer run of The Good Guys a few weeks early, on August 2nd. The network had previously planned to air original episodes of the Bradley Whitford / Colin Hanks series until August 23rd.
The series debuted to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. The numbers have essentially fallen each week and hit a low of a 1.0 rating and 3.42 million viewers.
Despite garnering poor ratings during the summer months, The Good Guys remains on the network’s fall schedule. Original episodes will return to FOX beginning Friday, September 24th. It remains to be seen how long that will last.
FOX has lower expectations for summer shows but it’s hard to believe that the network is pleased with the series’ performance. It seems that they’re keeping it on the fall schedule in hopes that viewers will tune in on Friday nights instead of trying one of the other networks’ new shows.
By the time Good Guys finishes its summer run, FOX will have aired nine original episodes. That will leave 11 new episodes for the fall. The real test will be to see if the network orders any more. Right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
What do you think? Do you like The Good Guys? Do you think it’ll last to see a second season? Should it?

Whitford is a great throwback. reminds me, a little, of a modern day Archie Bunker. Very inappropriate. Hanks is a nice straightman. Will get cancelled because it was given a sucky timeslot and won’t have the exposure necessary to retain viewers.
Show sucks and should die!!!
Whitord is a comin genius. Who knew?
This show is absolutely hilarious. Bradley Whitford is a comic gem. FOX would be foolish to cancel this show. Put it on a better night than Fridays this fall and promote it. No one really watches new shows in the summer so no one really knows it’s genius. Promote it and stand behind it and viewers will come.
My husband and I just LOVE this show!!! Please give it a chance. (Of course we loved “Life on Mars” too and look what happened to it. )
we love it at our house!
I just love this show. Something about Bradley, mmmmmm
I love this show! So funny! If your a fan let Fox know. I think the show could use more promotion. Hope to see it back. But I think Friday night is a dead zone for it.
Love the show. Whitford is brilliant. Get rid of Hanks. He’s the weakest link.
I love this show, so different from other cop shows. Maybe if it was on TNT, USA or TBS it would actually stay on air. All ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox shows never have a good chance anymore.
This is a great show. Smart, funny, well-written, entertaining, creative and unique. Rare for TV these days. Come on Fox, give it a chance! Bradley and Colin are a great team, and sexy, in a down home, I hate to admit it but wish I had a man like that watchin’ my back – kinda way. Stellar acting. Great job guys!
I love this show and really hope that Fox keeps it on. Extremely funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Colin Hanks. I really loved him in Mad Men. I loved Bradley Whitford in The West Wing. I like this show, but I think the writing needs to be a little sharper. It’s the kind of thing you want to succeed, but that is a vicious cycle. Keep promoting it and flog the writers. What about the movie The Other Guys? That has to hurt since it appears to be the same idea.
The Good Guys crack me up. Bradley is a comic genius – who knew? I sure hope it returns in the Fall.
I love the show and I hope it gets renewed.
But let’s face it, Friday is where Fox sends shows to die.
