FOX has decided to wrap their summer run of The Good Guys a few weeks early, on August 2nd. The network had previously planned to air original episodes of the Bradley Whitford / Colin Hanks series until August 23rd.
The series debuted to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. The numbers have essentially fallen each week and hit a low of a 1.0 rating and 3.42 million viewers.
Despite garnering poor ratings during the summer months, The Good Guys remains on the network’s fall schedule. Original episodes will return to FOX beginning Friday, September 24th. It remains to be seen how long that will last.
FOX has lower expectations for summer shows but it’s hard to believe that the network is pleased with the series’ performance. It seems that they’re keeping it on the fall schedule in hopes that viewers will tune in on Friday nights instead of trying one of the other networks’ new shows.
By the time Good Guys finishes its summer run, FOX will have aired nine original episodes. That will leave 11 new episodes for the fall. The real test will be to see if the network orders any more. Right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
What do you think? Do you like The Good Guys? Do you think it’ll last to see a second season? Should it?

This is one of the most unique cop shows I’ve seen. Don’t take it away! Don’t!!! Or you will be hearing from me. Hahaha!!!
I live in Dallas and love when we get network air time (remember Walker, Texas Ranger?) I don’t know why more shows are not made here. I enjoy this show for the very reason it will be cancelled. It is a throwback to how shows use to be. I love that Dan is stuck in the past and drives a Trans Am and the music in the show rocks. There is a reson why there are so many movies being made from old TV shows is people crave that simple Aaron Spelling formula that a thin plotline and cheesy acting… Read more »
I love this show! It is a great escape from the stresses of the week and there are no convoluted sub-plots to try and remember; just pure and simple fun that doesn’t insult our intelligence. My husband even watches the show and he considers most television a waste of time.
This is a fun, smart, well-acted and produced show. Fox did a crummy job with the ads and such for it, it looked like a typical “one cop is by the books and one breaks the rules” shows, the still ads made it look like a crappy drama rehash of an idea from the 80s…even the video ads didn’t really sell it accurately. I had no desire to watch it until I saw it on Hulu and saw tags that praised it. I gave it a chance and it’s a show I tell people they have to watch now. Hey,… Read more »
We love this show–please give it a chance to develop a following. Provide it with more promos and/or a new night, but please don’t cancel it!
Of course I love this show! It has everything that a middle aged white guy loves….. Late 70’s rock, corny catch phrases, muscle cars…. Bradley Whitford truly knows what it was like to live in “the day” and continues to re-live it in his character. The fact that it’s filmed in Dallas is a nice change to. If Fox does drop it, I’ll follow it to whatever network picks it up next!
Loved this show from the get go. It has a unique campy and nostaligic feel that works. I hope Fox promotes it a little more and let’s it have the proper time to build a following. Friday or Sunday would be good time slots for this show. I agree with an earlier poster that it would also be perfect for USA if Fox fails to recognize a good thing.
Good Guys is easily the funniest thing on tv this Summer. I sure hope it has a longer future.
I like this show, therefore it has the kiss of death.
Ok, another well-written show with interesting story lines along with actors who do such a great job that their characters are truly believable. An ensemble cast that works well together, so what do we expect? Of course they’ll probably cancel it and put on another reality show — ugh. It’s pretty difficult to get invested in any of Fox’s news shows when they don’t leave them on long enough to develop a following. Remember “Cheers?” (not Fox but same concept). It had dismal ratings the entire first year it was on and look what a stellar success it became, but… Read more »
I enjoy this show and hope Fox will give it a chance in the Fall.
I don’t see many promos for the program, and wonder if people are aware of it. With some Fall promotion, I think a lot of people would start watching!
If FOX doesn’t want this show. I think it would do fantastic on a network like USA.
The premise of the Good Guys is unique. The forward/backward is interesting. I hope it is successful.
I love the Good Guys… keep it on this fall.
I Love this show. So that must mean it will be cancelled. What is it with FOX.
Keep this one Guys. It’s Good!!!!
I know what you mean. Arrested Development, Better Off Ted and many others were cancelled, I’m sure, because I thought they were the smartest, freshest, most clever shows on TV at the time! But seriously, it does seem that both Fox and ABC are awfully quick with the hatchet, and it generally falls on shows that are bright and clever, and just a little bit different than what usually tumbles out of the sitcom mold. But at least ABC and Fox keep trying to get some honestly good sitcoms on the air each year. They just don’t try hard enough.… Read more »
