After low ratings, the peacock network has pulled the plug on the series about a telepathic paramedic.
The Listener debuted on June 4th on NBC. Initially produced for Canadian networks, the drama revolves around a young paramedic (Craig Olejnik) who has the ability to hear other people’s thoughts. Through his job and abilities, he seeks to help those in need in any way he can.
Others in the cast include Lisa Marcos, Ennis Esmer, Mylene Robic, Arnold Pinnock, Anthony Lemke, Lara Jean Chorostecki, John Fleming, and Colm Feore.
On NBC, the show got off to a rocky start in the ratings. The two-hour premiere brought in 5.32 million viewers and just a 1.4/4 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. Summer viewing expectations aren’t very high but it didn’t bode well that the program landed in third place in total viewers and the demo.
Things didn’t get any better for the later episodes. Last week, Listener’s numbers hit a series low with 3.3 million viewers and a tiny 0.7/2 rating in the demo. Even for Summer viewership, those numbers are quite poor for a major network.

As a result, NBC has decided to end The Listener’s run prematurely. Next week’s episode will be the last to air on the peacock network and repeats of Law & Order will fill the timeslot after that.
The remaining five episodes of Listener are expected to be streamed online in August. The 13 episodes have already aired in many countries across the world and will continue to run in Canada.
Word is that the first season ends with plenty of unresolved mysteries. There’s been no news about the possibility of a second season for The Listener as yet but, if there is, you certainly won’t be seeing it on NBC.

The Listener was the only series I was watching on NBC. So, I no longer have a reason to bother checking NBC’s schedule or visiting their website. Too bad about all those poor folks paying for fancy ad spots and all. I understand the ads don’t work so well when no one’s watching them.
This was the only show I watched from week to week! I really enjoyed it and I strongly believe it deserves another chance. It wasn’t really fair that we got to see like 5 episodes and then it was cancelled without notice. I waited all day to watch it tonight only to be disappointed. Thanks.
That sucks! my husband and i really liked the show. it was one good show this summer. Now we don’t have anything to watch on Thursday and we are definitely not watching law and order replays…
They took off a fun new show for RE-RUNS??? Give me a break! Replace it with something new or leave it alone! It is a good show! I’ll remember this next time I’m tempted to watch a new show on NBC and won’t watch! You’ve already bought the rights, air the show!!!

Thats gay .. I love this show it is one of the FEW SUMMER shows I watch .. and really its only been on a few times why dont you let the whole season air .. You gotta give the show a chance .. Its like saying oh okay the first 2 episodes didnt do good so the whole series aint .. The Listener was the best show EVER!!! I love to watch it. Every week i look forward to watching it. My whole family watches it. That show can go somewhere if it is allowed. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE LISTENER=)
I’m so sad! This was the only show during the summer that has kept my interest. Now i have to watch reality tv. I was really loving this show. I just think not enough people knew about it.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I’m a huge fan!! It is my favorite show and I looked forward to watching the new episodes. It’s horrible that they cancelled it so early!! They should have at least finished the season. I will miss this show a lot! I found it really interesting and I am extremely dissapointed that I won’t be able to see what happens next. Please bring back the The Listener. I love that show. Every time I find a show I like NBC pulls it. I don’t understand that at all! I am not a big fan of reality show and that is all we seen now. Bring back the The Listener!

I loved this show from the beginning and looked forward to watching it every week!! My husband and I never missed an episode. I just turned the channel to watch it and Law and Order was on, if you seriously think Law and Order reruns are better than The Listener, you are sadly mistaken (I have since changed the channel)!!! I then got online to see why it wasn’t on tonight and found out the show has been cancelled and I think that stinks!!! I am truly bummed and hope that NBC will bring it back!!!!!!
i absolutely looooved this show and i looked forward to it every thursday and now its not on? I’m very dissapointed. Toby was so cute i loved watching it and not my Thursdays aren’t the same.
