September 12, 2012 ratings: The big battle of the night was the premiere of FOX’s The X Factor and the third evening of NBC’s The Voice on a special night. They essentially tied but NBC likely played a big role in deflating X Factor’s second season debut ratings.
On NBC, The Voice registered a 3.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.66 million total viewers. Compared to Tuesday night’s airing, the show was down by 18% in the demo.
At 9pm, America’s Got Talent drew a 2.9 in the demo with 11.0 million, up 52% when compared to the previous installment. At 10pm, the premiere of Guys with Kids registered a mediocre 2.2 in the demo with 6.28 million. That was followed by a rerun of The New Normal with 1.4 in the demo and 3.93 million.
On FOX, the two-hour premiere of The X Factor also drew a 3.3 rating but with only 8.47 million total viewers. Year-to-year, the series was down by a whopping 25% in the demo (vs a 4.4 rating).
On CBS, Big Brother brought in a third place 2.0 demo rating with 6.12 million viewers. That represents a 5% loss week-to-week. At 9pm, a repeat of Criminal Minds drew a 1.2 in the demo with 5.62 million. The network finished the night with a CSI rerun that attracted a 1.3 in the demo and 6.43 million.
On ABC, it was a night of all reruns — The Middle (0.9 in the demo with 3.71 million), Suburgatory (0.9 rating with 3.01 million), Modern Family (1.3 in the demo and 3.66 million), Suburgatory (a 0.9 rating and 2.74 million), and Revenge (a 0.6 rating and 2.51 million).
