Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I’m in the UK where the show was aired on daytime tv, just got near the end of series one when they stopped showing it….so annoying, had to look elsewhere to watch the rest and now I’m on the series two so the news that there isn’t going to be a series finale makes me wonder if I should watch the rest…..probably will though. Please consider a fourth series as I’m getting really annoyed when channels start showing really interesting dramas and then suddenly axe them.
Heck yes. You can’t end the TV show series Without A finale I’m sure you would have enough audience to make it worthwhile
I loved this show -everything about it; the actors, the setting, the story line. Would love it if someone else would pick it up to continue. Thought it was a good idea to at least have a movie to wrap things up.This was so well done it is a shame it has to end. Very disappointed.
Glad I read the books so I know how it’s suppose to end but upset that the show was cancelled and left it hanging like it did. Couldn’t you at least do a Cedar Cove finale movie to end it instead of hanging everyone out to dry?
I just finished watching all 3 seasons on Netflix and very sad to find out that it is not returning. This is one of the most wholesome, humble tv series! We need more of this and less reality tv!! This show is family oriented and should be brought back. TV shows should finish their story lines completely, now I’m left wondering what could’ve happened and the cast was fabulous!!! Shame on Hallmark!!!
It’s mandatory you must bring the show back. Not a good way to end either. The principles and values of the movie are so good. Judge Lockhart’s character portrays hope to the world of seeing people for why they truly are worth. The Cedar Cove small town community is an example of good love and life to the world. Even though you have a lousy (but well portrayed) character like Warren, it brought a message that anyone could over come and discern conniving people, if they observe well and help each other. Anyway, these principles are brilliant. You must bring… Read more »
I can’t believe you’ve left me wondering what’s next… I really enjoy the series. Would love to see at least one more season!
I have been binge watching this show on Netflix. I just love it!! I am so sad that it has not been renewed for a 4th season. Could you please at least do another few episodes to wrap up all the unfinished business? I feel so connected to the characters. My imagination alone cannot wrap up this storyline. Please, I need resolution and closure.
How could you Hallmark?! Bring it back!
How could you?! Bring it back!
Loved Cedar Cove. I am sad that the show was cancelled. Please consider bringing it back.
I think there should be a season four to at least tie things up. Things just got left hanging. Love the show and all the characters. Good clean family entertainment. There should be more shows like this.
This was the best show I have ever seen on TV. I cant believe it was cancelled for no apparent reason. You owe it to your Hallmark watchers to bring it back! There are o clean shows on TV anymore I am about to give up on Netflix and TV altogether.
My husband and I enjoyed each season of Cedar Cove and sadly the last season was also his finale. We sat quietly holding hands for three hours watching season three on Netflix, not wanting the night to end. He died only two hours later, after a brief but intense four month battle with Glioblastoma (brain cancer). It was more than a year before I could finish watching that last season, but Cedar Cove and its actors will remain in my heart and I will never forget our final hours together. I hope that Hallmark will change their decision before it’s… Read more »
I hate that the show was cancelled!!! Please please please bring it back!!! My husband, sister and Aunt all loved the series. We’ve been waiting for it to come back on, only to realize that you had canceled the show. It was one of the very few clean family shows that we could watch, and look forward to see what happened with the characters each week, and now it’s gone!! Total bummer!! Total disappointment!!
