Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
It leaves us all hanging now…With no Season 4 I doubt I will watch Hallmark anymore knowing they cancel and won’t continue,,when you get so into the story and there is no ending what fun is that? Watching this was so great! There was no sex no swear words,,it was wholesome living in a small town movie with a great story but no ending!!
I agree with all the comments. I watched all the shows on Netflix and loved each show. Getting to know each character. There always seemed to be lessons to learn on each show. Although the show had romance in it, it was good clean romance. Not trashy. Unlike so many shows on TV these days. No cussing, or nude bodies, just a great show series. I also was disappointed to find out there was not going to be any more episodes. How can you leave all us loyal Cedar Cove TV watchers with so many unanswered questions – no closure.… Read more »
I miss Cedar Cove and its people. I enjoyed every episode. I only wanted Olivia to end up with Paul. Justine with Luke and Me with Cliff. Thought you would like that last thought. Kidding aside I miss them and would love to see it all return. Debbie Macomber is my favorite author. Thanks Mary Eckard
I can undertsand the ratings, however, for all of us who did see the 3 seasons and followed the developement of the characters, at least one or two more episodes to write a finale would be hightly appreciate. What Hallmark is saying is that there are only concerned about those that did not tune in to follow this series, and has no interest, whatsoever, in all of us who did. Not sure I will give any Hallmark series a chance. I can always rely on a good book, with an ending.
Hallmark you can’t leave a series with so many unanswered questions…please reconsider a season 4 or at least a movie to let us know what happened with the story…no ones life on that series had any type of closure…I started watching it on Netflix and was hooked from the first episode…please please please give some closure. Thanks
Maybe it could be a Netflix series?
Cedar Cove was one of my favorite series. I am disappointed to learn the there will not be another series. It’s frustrating when a series ends leading the viewers to think there will be another.
It was a wonderful series and I can’t believe it was canceled. Really should bring back more holes some TV.
Why do all good wholesome shows end. Ugh I just started the series on Netflix I want more
It’s SUPER disappointing that Cedar Cove was cancelled without closure!!! Please do one last season for the fans that truly enjoyed the show and need closure.
I started ceder cove on Netflix and I’m just finished season 3 and I’m so disappointed there is no season 4 !! What happens to everyone where do they end up I feel so let down please bring back one last season! I need closer…
I just purchased the whole series of books by Debbie Macomber. I guess I will start reading the series to find out what happens.
Great idea but that is costing you and this shouldn’t be necessary! Hallmark needs to get a conscience!
May I ask what they cost?
Please, Please, Please do a season four or at least a movie to let us know what happens.
I loved Cedar Cove, can’t believe it has bee cancelled, very disappointed in Hallmark!
Please, Hallmark, do the right thing and bring Cedar Cove’s fans some closure. I loved the cast and story.
Please renew or at least create a show that gives Cedar Cove’s fans closure. I love the story and cast. Please, Hallmark, do the right thing.
Please create a season 4 on Netflix! I love this tv series and cannot wait to see what happens!
I can’t believe you concealed this series!! I am a 55 year old grandmother that is raising her 9 year old granddaughter and she and I loved watching this series. My granddaughter loves the Shirley temple movies, Audrey Hamburn movies, golden girls and so many more old movies that have heart and a good story. She loves hallmark mystery movies!! I hate the fact that you discontinue a great series with a beautiful story because of the many and not the few. It takes one to change the world and spread the good news. You have no idea how many… Read more »
