Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Please bring back Cedar Cove. This show dealt with issues of PTSD and alcoholism, both of which a loved one of mine is dealing with. It was an outlet for me to lose myself in the show and watch how the characters dealt with it. It’s wonderful to watch a show that is meaningful and inspiring for so many.
I agree, anther great show cancelled, good clean intertainment. Wish they would reconsider. Even my husband was a fan of the show….as Nancy Carrigan would say….why….why….why?!!!!!!!!!
If it was going to be cancelled it would have been nice to have it end
without any questions about the characters. I enjoyed the program
very much.
Again, another great show gets cancelled. Apparently, if a show doesn’t have sex, violence, vulgarity, zombies, and/or comic characters, it’s not considered what the viewers want. Even Hallmark has caved in to the moronic mentality of what’s perceived to be a successful show. Shame on you, Hallmark!
I was surprised to see that Cedar Cove was cancelled. I loved the show and was looking forward to the return. I am really surprised at Hallmark canceling a good family show. You really should bring it back. It had a great cast of characters. So sad to see another network not giving a great family show a real chance.
Just watched the 3rd season on DVD,, as I do not subscribe to cable, and I had to wait for the DVD release leaving myself and zillions of others not calculated in the rattings numbers. I love the show and was very diasappointed to hear it was not renewed. The cliff hanger ending leaves me searching for Debbie’s books, in hopes of at least reading about what happens next, now that Hallmark has left me hanging. Please consider bringing the show back.
Please bring it back it had suck wonderful flawed characters and was so enjoyable to watch!
So sad it won’t be returning I loved that show and looked forward to watching on Saturday nights!
No! Please bring it back! It is such a beautiful series and so well done in every aspect! Please bring it back! and I am new to the series, a new veiwer and fan.
You really shouldn’t just leave people hanging when you decide to cancel a show. I’ve always thought that was rude. It’s the reason why I won’t watch Lifetime any longer. At least make a movie that ties everything up and gives people an ending so that we feel like we mean enough to you as viewers for you to actually consider our thoughts. We’d like to finish the journey we began with these characters and then being in other movies while nice isn’t the same. My Mother always said “don’t start what you aren’t going to finish” I still believe… Read more »
Very disappointed. Why doyoumake us get involved in these stories when there is no intention of a finale? Thus could’ve been handled in a more appropriate way.
I was so disappointed to see Cedar Cove cancelled. I was looking forward to seeing season 4. I love all the characters in the show. Please reconsider bringing it back. I watched every show and looked forward to it each week. Hallmark is my favorite TV channel but I do think they made a mistake when they cancelled Cedar Cove. I was so involved in that show that I actually made plans to go visit. The scenery was beautiful. I hate to see a wholesome show get cancelled.
I loved the show. Watched every episode. Very disappointed that it has been canceled. Please bring it back.
Disappointed this was cancelled, there are shows that should have been cancelled but not this one. I do wish the TV show would have been more like the books it seemed to be all over the place.
I loved Ceadr Cove!! Filmed in my home town! Bring on season 4 PLEASE!
