Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Like all the other responders we are heartbroken that you have left us high and dry. We have eagerly been anticipating the return of Cedar Cove–the best show of the summer if not all year. Can’t we at least have closure to the many dilemmas at the end of last season. Forget it if Hallmark thinks we will now adopt a new series! You just lost 2 more viewers.
UNACCEPTABLE!!! What are they thinking!! We fans deserve much more!!!! Unbelievable!!!! No, the show should not have been cancelled…at least not without proper closure. Using the actors in other areas does not fill the CEDAR COVER void. I am so disappointed.
What happened? Why wouldn’t you have at least had an ending to this delightful series?
It was left on a severe cliff hanger. How could they do that to us?
I am extremely disappointed. I was
Looking forward to it’s return. Loved the characters. I hate watching Christmas shows in summer.
I can’t believe Cedar Cove has been cancelled,I looked forward to watching it every week, I have read all the books but it’s not the same, why is it when something good comes to TV they cancel it,they also cancelled Sign Sealed and Delievered
I am very sorry that this story has ended with no closure. After investing three seasons in it I am not inspired or motivated to invest any time in a new one, just to have it end abruptly. I would prefer a mini-series format like a book with a beginning, middle and an end. I am so done with scripted series.
I just went online to see when season 4 of Cedar Cove is scheduled to begin only to learn that IT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!! Are you kidding me? I am still in disbelief…. this is how you treat your loyal fans? And here all along I thought so highly of the Hallmark channel only to discover you are like every other channel out there…it’s ALL about your precious ratings. Well guess what hallmark? Your ratings just went down by one less viewer!
Cedar Cove was a favorite! I am so disappointed it
Has been cancelled
Cedar cove should retern for a 4th series and if ratings are bad put a twist and advertise more. Those questions need to be answers even if season 4 would be the last questions would be answered!
It is so unfair the show was cancelled. I am very sad about it. I actually discovered it late and I went on Netflix and watched every episode, waiting for season 4. I understand money plays a major role in this but what about all the fans? Cedar Cove was one of the best series on the Hallmark channel, I wish they would reconsider..
I’m so disappointed. I was looking forward to it coming back on. It was a great series. I’m actually mad it won’t come on.
Like so many others, this makes me terribly sad. Cedar Cove is a special place with kindness, civility, and a gentle way of life I wish still existed. I hope there will be a finale or movie to wrap it up, bringing back all of the characters. Until then it’s a search for entertainment free of violence, crude scenarios, and shock “humor.” Thank you to everyone involved in bringing Cedar Cove to us for three wonderful seasons.
Shame on the Hallmark Channel for removing Cedar Cove. That was one of the best series ever. You teased us with “The Bridge” and then told us that we would have to wait until Christmas of 2016 to see the second half of the movie. People must have complained about that and lo and behold, the second half of the movie was on the first quarter of this year. Again…shame on the Hallmark Channel for cancelling this wonderful series. If it is not renewed for 2016, I will have to seriously consider not watching the Hallmark Channel anymore. I don’t… Read more »
Hallmark is one of my most loved TV channels. Let me update, that for the idiots at Hallmark who are in charge of making these stupid decisions…ARE YOU FRIGGIN’ NUTS!!!!!! It was probably the same group of morons that after you fall in love with the movie The Bridge, they tell you that you have to wait until Christmas 2016 to see the second half of that wonderful movie. REALLY????? You see what happened after that stupid decision. EITHER YOU PEOPLE GET A LIFE AND QUIT MAKING ASSES OUT OF YOURSELVES, OR YOU WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PERCENTAGES OF… Read more »
