Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I can’t believe they could take off such a great show!!! This was such a quality show. My friends and I kept saying that we couldn’t wait for a new season to start. The people, the scenic views of the area were exceptional. What was Hallmark thinking!!!!!!! They couldn’t even give it a decent ending. Something smells fishy. Why end it like that?
This was a very wholesome series, as are all Hallmark series… my wife and I were looking forward to the continuation of Cedar Cove. We enjoyed the theme, the photography and the exceptional cast of the series. The Hallmark Channel is our most watched channel, because of it’s wholesome program content, and it is a shame that they chose the cancel Cedar Coove. I hope this is not a reoccuring thing with the other series they have going!
Take off a good quality show, was looking forward to the new season, why don’t you replace it with one those stupid reality shows.
I enjoyed that show and was looking forward to seeing it again this summer. I am so sorry to hear it was cancelled. There goes summer. Reconsider hallmark please.
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on you Hallmark!! You cancelled a wonderful, decent show! I am so very disappointed. I greatly looked forward to it every week. I
will really miss the wonderfully talented cast & interesting storylines. Such a waste!!
I can’t believe they canceled the show…I was watching on Netflix and was just wondering when it was going to be back on…:(
I too Loved Cedar Cove and would hope that they reconsider and bring it back
very disappointed with hallmark for not renewing cedar cove enjoyed it greatly
I can’t believe this, when ever there is a good series on, they seem to always cancel it and leave everyone hanging on, this is very frustrating. I was so looking forward to the new season in 2016.
We 27 & obviously in your desired target age demo. & loved Cedar Cove & not sure whether to boycott Hallmark or no re: this lame decision. We’re also journalists covering the arts. An excellent show, smart writing & little of the generic music in the background that seems to plague so many HMark properties. Any chance of restoring the show or doing a one-off movie to tie up loose ends?
I am very mad that they left it the way they did. That stinks. I was looking foward to the new season in 2016.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove was cancelled. Really enjoyed watching each characters story unfold and was looking forward to at least one more season. Guess 1.6 million loyal viewers isn’t enough to justify keeping it going, too bad!!
Shame on you Hallmark!!
I quite enjoyed watching cedar cove. Very disappointed that it has been cancelled. Such an easy show to watch. Very little violence no rape no drugs to speak of and it goes off the air. Guess it’s not what you think the peor watch
This was such a great show. I am so disappointed in the Hallmark Channel in canceling a show the whole family could watch. Wake Up!
