Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I loved cedar cove and was looking forward to new season. I am very disappointed it has been cancelled. I love the two hallmark channels. It is hard to find a network with wholesome tv viewing. I truly love hallmark and hallmark movies and mysteries. I
I am very disappointed there will not be a season four. Who cancels a series without closure. Please bring it back for a final season.
I was disappointed that the final season ended with out knowing who Olivia was going to choose. It was a terrible finish. I will not watch Hallmark again!
I was just searching to see when Cedar Cove was starting and am so disappointed to learn it has been cancelled! I really hate being a faithful viewer of a show only to have it cancelled with no closing season. This happened with Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime. The setting that Cedar Cove was filmed at was gorgeous.
Will miss it very much. It was so refreshing to have a show without violence, swearing and sex. It had wonderful characters and story line and the actors were wonderful.
What a shame to cancel it.
It’s so sad that you cancelled Cedar Cove. I enjoyed watching it and hope you at least give us a movie to give us all closure.
I am disappointed about this decision. At least there could be a closure show. I have read some of the books and know how many of the relations ships resolve. Perhaps the series took too much liberty with the story and it has been a challenge to bring them back into McCombers (sp?) original story line. I have enjoyed seeing the players in other shows but have been waiting to see Cedar Cove come back together.
I am so, so very disappointed and upset of the decision to cancel Cedar Cove. It was considered, amongst my friends and myself who are grandmothers that stay home Saturday nights, our Saturday night soap opera. We talked about it when we got together for coffee and at exercise classes. We recorded it if we could not be home on a Saturday night.
Please, please bring it back. Nothing else you have written or produced even come close to that series. I can not believe that you would cancel a show that was so liked.
Very disappointed the series was cancelled. At a minimum there should have been some closure to the series at least. I really loved the show and all the characters in it. Mint left us all dangling with so many unanswered questions.
Disappointed to see this was cancelled. Hallmark Channel is pretty much all I watch and it was good to see a weekly series that wasn’t a reality tv show.
I was so disappointed Cedar Cove was cancelled. Love reading the books and enjoyed the show…why on earth would they cance such a good show?
My husband & I are in agreement with everybody who’s upset that the 2016 season of Cedar Cove has been cancelled! We were so looking forward to the continuation of this, rare these days, wonderful and enjoyable show and are very disappointed with the decision to cancel it. We didn’t have the Hallmark channel when the first 2 seasons aired, but after watching the 3rd season, we immediately bought the first 2 so we could be all caught up before season 4. Now we’re just left hanging with a lot of unanswered questions and loose ends… please reconsider renewing the… Read more »
This was a great series. Need 4th series for unanswered questions. Please do not cancel!! I enjoy the Hallmark Channel. It’s my favorite.
I enjoyed Cedar Cove and it was a great show. I wish Hallmark would change their mind and bring back the show.
