Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
My mother is extremely upset that there will be no fourth season and that Hallmark would leave it’s over 1.5 million loyal fan’s in the larch. UnCool Hallmark channel, very UnCool !!
SO SAD THAT MY FAVORITE SHOW HAS BEN CANCELLED! IT WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SHOW. LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS, THEY SEEMED VERY AUTHENTIC. I’VE READ ALL THE BOOKS BY DEBBIE MACOMBER AND THOUGHT THIS SERIES WOULD CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS. VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HALLMARK.
I’m so sorry to see they are discontinuing Cedar Cove. I looked forward to watching it each week. It’s also sad they are leaving the fans hanging.
Seriously? It’s just over like that?!?! This stinks! I just checked to see when the Season 4 would begin and got this bad news!
I am surprised and disappointed that show was cancelled. I have read all of the Cedar Cove books and enjoyed them. Not sure what the reason for cancelling the show but I think it worked. I would have liked it to be more like the books. Some things were changed that I thought worked better in the books. The show was a nice diversion from reality and shock tv.
I was just checking to see when Cedar Cove started up again and found it it had been cancelled. I sure hope they consider how disappointed the people that have watched and enjoyed the past three seasons feel about this decision and will make a movie to let us know what happens to everyone in Cedar Cove!!
What a disappointment they cancelled it! They should have at least have a closure to the series for all fateful 1.67 mln followers.
I can’t believe they left us hanging so horribly with Cedar Cove.
How about a 2 hour closure episode or something?!
I no longer trust Hallmark channel.
What would keep them from doing this again with a new series?
I signed up for cable, Just to get Cedar Cove. I originally found season 1 on Netflix. What a disappointment.
Bring back Cedar Cove.
What a shame. The best show on Hallmark channel. A good show the whole family could watch. There is so much trash on the tv today. It was filmed in a beautiful location. Every show left you wanting to see more. Maybe there should have been more advertisement about the show. I can’t begin to express how disappointed I am. Could hardly wait for summer for it to begin!
I was really looking forward to Season 4 of Cedar Cove and am very disappointed to hear it was cancelled. Big mistake!
This is terrible news. This was the best show on Hallmark. Looked forward to each summer. Their are not many shows on tv with such class. Seemed so real and always left you wanting to see more. It was filmed in such a beautiful setting. I just found out it was cancelled and I am so disappointed. People at Hallmark made a big mistake.
I Loved this show and the chemistry between the cast members. I am really disappointed to hear that it was cancelled. I hope the network has a “change of heart” and bring it back for another season at least to tie up the cliffhangers from last season.
I am so disappointed in this news. I thought the show was a breath of fresh air in the midst of all of the violent, foul-language and all-around ugliness of TV on the other networks. I wish ratings didn’t matter so much, but advertisers won’t buy time during a show with low ratings. Sad because we could all use a lot more family programming to combat the dark and disturbing content that is out there almost everywhere else. I’d love to see a 2-hour special to tie up the loose ends of the story-lines.
I don’t usually like romance type movies/series but I thoroughly enjoyed this series and am quite disappointed it won’t be returning.
I loved this show and couldn’t wait for it to start again. Maybe you should realize you can’t just run a show a couple months then not show it for 9 months. Wander why people loose interest. Used to watch a show the entire school season. Well now after a few weeks they show reruns. Why not switch to a rotating 3 month shows then another show for 3 months then back to the original show. Actors would have down time and people wouldn’t loose interest in a long time off between seasons
Loved the series. Wish the powers that be would realize that long time viewers deserve an ending to the series. How about a 2 hour movie to wrap up the story lines?
