Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I am upset to hear of the canceling of Cedar Cove. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. I loved the setting and storyline. And no ending??
I am very disappointed about this cancellation and I never understand why there isn’t a wrap up at a minimum! Hallmark has very loyal viewers and I think the least they could do is a 2 hour wrap-up. If this becomes a Hallmark trend, viewers will quit watching in anticipation of being left hanging with unanswered questions. Hallmark…we thought you had heart!
What a disappointment! Truly enjoyed Cedar Cove and looked forward to watching each episode.
I am so disappointed that the networks have cancelled another great wholesome show like Cedar Cove. Didn’t even give it an ending. Every time there is a good show on TV these days they get cancelled. Why? because they are not negative or violent or reality shows, or just plain stupid shows. Please bring back Cedar Cove or at the least a 2 hour ending to wrap it up.
I just happened to look up to see when Cedar Cove was going to be starting their new season and I found out that Hallmark has canceled the series. I’m so upset! I absolutely loved that show. The show was a down to earth family setting show that was filled with lots of love and understanding and friendships. Cedar Cove show had everything anyone needed to learn about the love and strength of family life and everyday situations that happen and the correct way of handling them. PLEASE BRING THE SHOW BACK! THERE ARE SO MANY VIEWERS WHO WATCHED THAT… Read more »
I was so disappointed to hear this news. This was one of my favorite shows.
I was very sorry to see Ceder Cove cancelled. My husband and I both sat down to watch it every Saturday night. It is and was a very wonderful family program not like some of the entertainment out these days, We watch the Hallmark channel all the time and have really enjoyed the programs. I have to agree with some of the other viewers comments, the networks keep shows that are just plan ridiculous and cancel programs that are family friendly and an enjoyment to watch. Since we also follow When Calls the Heart, I hope they don’t get any… Read more »
I am so disappointed. I have been waiting & waiting for its return. Why do all the good series get cancelled?? A good family show these days are sooooo hard to find. It frustrates me that it is always about the $ amount. You need to leave some good on TV for people to watch. It is not always about so much drama & murder, etc. This was a nice storyline that I looked forward to watching each week. Now they are thinking about shutting down Heartland series too. What are you people doing!!!!!!
Even though I’ve read all the books, these shows really brought them to life. The casting was brilliant. Hey Hallmark, there are still over a million and a half people who really care about this wholesome entertainment Something you can’t find on other networks!
So disappointed our favorite family show was cx. We loved Cedar Cove AND Every episode!
Please bring the shiw back at leadt to tie ip sll the ends!! Loved thr show!!
At the very least, there should be a two-hour wrap-up. I don’t think the series should’ve been canceled. The ratings were still solid.
It should not have been cancled it was one of by all time shows ever!!!!
Why should I be surprised? Crappy shows like all the reality garbage goes on forever while quality shows like cedar cove (and Forever and Drop Dead Diva) die — many with no closure. 1.67 million viewers is still 1.67 MILLION viewers. Most of us tape the shows which is not captured as to how many viewers you actually get. There’s also on demand viewers. Let’s capture the ratings in modern times not from 1960 and call it an accurate representation of today’s times. Really frustrated.
I am very sad to learn that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I always waited anxiously each season to see the new episodes. Hallmark Channel, please reconsider and bring back this series.
