The alphabet is cutting the first season of Combat Hospital short by one episode, moving up the season (likely series) finale. ABC is cutting the 11th episode, “Brothers in Arms,” next Tuesday and will instead run the 12th installment, “Triage.” The 13th episode, “Do No Harm,” will wrap the season on September 6th.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to run the missing episode at a later date but that isn’t a surprise. Combat Hospital has been a disappointment ratings-wise and has been averaging a low 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic and 3.94 million viewers. Aside from Karaoke Battle USA, it’s the lowest-rated original series currently on the network.
The series is supposedly doing much better however in Canada, where it’s produced. While it’s hard to imagine that ABC would renew the show for a second season, Combat Hospital could continue airing north of the border. If it does, fans here in the states will likely have to wait until the episodes are released on DVD or watch/download them online.
What do you think? Does Combat Hospital deserve a second season or cancellation? Why do you think it’s doing better in Canada than the US?

I would like ABC to reconsider the cancellation of Combat Hospital. History proves that prematurely canceled shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show or Star Trek, came back with great success and audience following. It’s an excellent ensemble cast, good writing (compelling stories), and a good representation of current combat conditions & a timely location. I’ve heard the critics complain about inaccuracies, but who cares about every little detail? IT’S A SHOW – not a documentary! Was M.A.S.H. absolutely faithful to the Korean war? Does Wisteria Lane on Desperate Housewives accurately represent suburbia? Et Cetera….This show was one of the… Read more »
Yes…it’s just like Off the Map all over again. Loved that show and it was cancelled…also by ABC. Now I love Combat Hospital. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT. We don’t miss an episode!
HOLY CRAP, not again, every time I am totally loving a show and getting invested in the story, TPTB want to cancel it….AAARRRGGGHHH! It’s Off The Map all over again, will you people just give these great shows a chance for people to really see/catch the show(s) & see if they like them or not. Besides, Michelle Borth and Elias Kotias are so worth it. The reason it does better in Canada I think is maybe is because they have Canadian elements to the show & there is no U.S elements at all in it?? But I think the show… Read more »
I think it’s a good series. It’s probably doing better in Canada because Canada is actually being acknowledged in the show and Americans don’t like that.
I enjoyed Combat Hospital and do not want to see in cancelled.
I love the show. They need to reconsider their decission to cancel the show. Maybe ABC can find an earlier viewing time slot ( 10-11pm on a work night) thats probably the reason for the low rating. I would record it and watch it the following day after work.
My husband and I watched every episode of Combat Hospital and enjoyed every one. It’s unique – a combination of M*A*S*H meets Apocalypse Now with fantastic, compelling characters set in a war zone that we do not understand – but try to.
Why does every show that has to do with Canada do badly in the states? what dot they have against their northern neighbour? I personally love the show and am Canadian
I am very disappointed that Combat Hospital might be cancelled. I’m not sure why it would be more popular in Canada as Americans should be able to relate equally well with this very pertinent show. Seems that there’s plenty of others that feel the same way. Maybe the network needs to re-examine their scheduling, etc. to give it a better chance of survival. Please give it another chance!
Fabulous show. Should be in the fall line-up.
Like I said before , is they should keep it , and give it another chance, and promote it better. The reason why it is doing better in Canada, is maybe they are smarter at promoting it on their time slot, and air day. Maybe they are just smarter period ,for recognizing and watching a great show when they see it. I did not think I would like it when I saw the previews, but my husband wanted me to watch it, and we both thought it was great, and did not miss a show. Now it is the same… Read more »
I love this show. I just recently started watching it a few weeks ago on ONdemand, I just fell in love with this show. I believe Combat Hospital should have another season! In my opinion, I think the show is doing way better in Canada is because they actually love military people. Im not saying that the Americans don’t ; it’s just some don’t want to imagine what it’s like out there in the real warzone, but yet again in the US they’re more into entertainment (Dancing With the Stars, The X Factor, Jersey Shore, etc.) nothing important. Oh well,… Read more »

But I think the show has great potential and deserves the chance to show the network that they… Read more »
Don’t cancel Combat Hospital! It has been my favorite show since I saw the first one and haven’t missed a single episode. Bring the series back!!!!
I love this show and don’t want it to be canceled!!! Ummm not sure why it is better is Canada… I don’t know how the states give support to their troops. But we are hudge in supporting our troops. Maybe that’s the reason… They think watching this show gives them more support!!!
