The alphabet is cutting the first season of Combat Hospital short by one episode, moving up the season (likely series) finale. ABC is cutting the 11th episode, “Brothers in Arms,” next Tuesday and will instead run the 12th installment, “Triage.” The 13th episode, “Do No Harm,” will wrap the season on September 6th.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to run the missing episode at a later date but that isn’t a surprise. Combat Hospital has been a disappointment ratings-wise and has been averaging a low 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic and 3.94 million viewers. Aside from Karaoke Battle USA, it’s the lowest-rated original series currently on the network.
The series is supposedly doing much better however in Canada, where it’s produced. While it’s hard to imagine that ABC would renew the show for a second season, Combat Hospital could continue airing north of the border. If it does, fans here in the states will likely have to wait until the episodes are released on DVD or watch/download them online.
What do you think? Does Combat Hospital deserve a second season or cancellation? Why do you think it’s doing better in Canada than the US?

I agree with all of you that this was an amazing show. I am an American but personally I happen to like the Canadian shows a lot better. I use to watch shows such as Greys Anatomy until I found Combat Hospital. I quit watching Greys Anatomy because I thought Combat Hospital had a lot more potential. They let us know what it was really like for the people overseas. I am 23 and personally I can’t stand all of those other stupid shows out there. The ones I watch have to have meaning and some truth to them. I… Read more »
This is truly a good show. I can’t believe it’s been cancelled. With all the reality junk that is out there, along comes a show about what our men and women are doing fighting a senseless war, and the tv audience doesn’t tune in to watch. It’s really sad. I hope it gets saved.
Finally a great TV show instead of trash, AND produced here in Canada – and it gets cancelled! Surely one of the Canadian networks could pick it up – we have to have a certain amount of Canadian content, it might as well be good!! Don’t let it get trashed because of lack of viewers south of the border, or because it isn’t “produced in America” that we are hearing so much about at the moment. What happened to the Free Trade Agreement? Let’s show our Canadian pride and pick it up for another, and another season!!
It is inevitable that a good – potentially great – show would be cancelled. Problem is it is not all sugar and cream and wave the red, white and blue. Not funny enough, either. When will America grow up?
I enjoyed watching Combat Hospital. As my son had been stationed in Afghanistan I was a little hesitant to watch it, but found it not what I thought it was going to be. I thought it was a current day M*A*S*H. Shame on ABC for cutting a good show, no doubt in favor of something totally inane.
I really liked Combat Hospital. My girlfriend and I wondered what had happened. Sucks to find out it may be cancelled.
Both my husband and I really enjoyed watching COMBAT HOSPITAL. This is a very intreging interesting and definitely stories that are needed to be delivered to the views. Makes me think of MASH way back when. What can we do to have it return.
Please don’t cancel this show!! It’s one of the best shows I have ever seen!!! I will cry if it is. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE SHOW!!!!
A really good believable Canadian show and it gets cancalled!? Because its American or doesn’t have enough shoot’em up blood and gore? I can’t believe that we as Canadians can’t watch Canadian based qithout fear of having them preempted or cancelled in favour of American propoganda! The Guard, Cold Squad to name 2. Shame!
This was one of the better shows this year, which gave us a glimpse into what our men and women are having to content with in the Afghanistan War. So much better than all of the “rigged” reality shows of today. I hope it comes back for another season. I was beginning to get to know the characters. The show left feeling very much unfinished.
I also liked the TV show Vietnam’s “China Beach” when it aired.
I really enjoyed “Combat Hospital” and just assumed they were making more. It is very entertaining. There isn’t much to watch on TV but this program was a shinning star. Looking forward to it being returned, hopefully!!!
I was so looking forward to this show coming back next year. Tonight I had to endure American Horror Story which with all the gratuitous blood, gore and horror, and screwed up characters, a cutting daughter and a patient who is a killer and is disgusting whenever he opens his mouth, THAT will be the one with the big ratings. I’m older and we get outvoted by the twenty-year-olds and their love of shallow, gross TV fare. I depend more and more on Netflix movies and BBC series to find something entertaining and not enough to make you sick.
One of the best shows I have seen in the in many years, never should have been cancelled.
I have enjoyed the Combat Hospital series so very much, and I will be heartbroken if it is cancelled. It helps us here at home get a little insight into what goes on with our troops and medical people who endure so much hardship. I can’t imagine why there weren’t more people watching it in the U.S. Perhaps, it conflicted with another show they watched or it hits too close to home with so many of our troops over there. I think the acting was superb, and I love the characters. PLEASE, DO NOT TAKE THIS SHOW OFF THE AIR.… Read more »
I really hope that Combat hospital is NOT cancelled, it is a good show that shows what men and women go through over seas. As for why is it more popular in Canada the. In the U.S.A. that I think is obvious, being a Canadian myself, when we watch t.v. Here it is 90% of the time q good story that takes place in a U.S. City about American charactors like Greys Anatomy, American med students living and working in Seatile Washington. For the most part when there has been Canadian shows on we either have shows like Emily of… Read more »
