The ABC TV show about what happens in the future apparently doesn’t have one. FlashForward has been cancelled after one season.
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted in September and attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.47 million viewers. With a lot of buzz, it seemed like ABC had a hit. For week two, the ratings dropped to a still very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
But then viewership just kept falling, hitting a low of a 2.1 in the key demo and just 7.1 million viewers. Then, ABC pulled the series for three months. The spin was that they would relaunch FlashForward after the Olympics.
The network gave the return a significant amount of promotion but it didn’t help. FlashForward’s ratings were even worse and they just kept dropping. They’ve gotten so bad that The CW has been beating them in the demo.
To no surprise, ABC has cancelled FlashForward after one season of 20 episodes. The series finale will air in two weeks, on May 27th.
What do you think? Did FlashForward deserve a second season? Could ABC have saved it? If given the chance, how would you wrap it up?

This was such a smart show. I never knew if I missed the end because I worked nights often, I decided to try to find out what happened, to realize it never came back on to have a actual finale. It was really ruined by being off so long in the fall, I didn’t know what happened to it and forgot what happened when it came back on, no wonder the ratings went down, hello! You had a great show (my favorite) that YOU botched by the way you aired it. Timing is everything. Why don’t you sell it to… Read more »
I finished watching the entire season on Netflix. It was the best show I have ever seen. I want to be able to see season 2. Even if they just bring it back as a online series or as a dvd only.
Other shows like FamilyGuy were cancelled but after the high rental demand for their season, they brought it back to tv.
This can happen with Flashforward if enough people rent it.
BRING IT BACK!!!
NOW!
I too just watched the entire season on Netflix. Great program. There are several programs such as this one recently that have gotten pulled; I wish this policy could be changed.
I just watched 22 episodes in 3 days on Netflix. I was hooked. I believe this is one of the most exciting shows I have seen for a long time. I agree with Amy, bring it back and make a mini-series if need be, but don’t end it the way it did. ABC, you should reconsider re-instating this program. Also, who ever had the idea to cancell it should have his/her head examined.
no it doesn’t deserve to be canceled at all it’s not fair for such series
I just watched the entire season on Netflix as well… It was great!!! I would love to see more!!!
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!! ABC you are terrible for cancelling such an awesome show! there is no way you can leave all these people on the edge of their seats like that. just awful. somebody PLEASE do a second season
Just watched the entire season on Netflix – I really liked it and our teenage children were hooked after the first episode. Cancelled too soon!
This show definitely deserves a season two. I just watched the whole season one on netflix and would certainly watch season two if it was produced. Figures with all the crap that makes it to TV and stays they go and get rid of quality like this.
I just watch this on Nexflix and the show was great. It would be great to see a second season.
This show was fantastic, I just saw the complete season on Netflix. It really needs an ending. I am disappointed that there isn’t a second season.
i have just watch the whole season on netflix and i think it was great and would really like to know what happens i think another season would be AWESOME !!! so someone needs to pick this one up
Not unexpected, as ABC has cancelled great shows before. This one deserved a better faith and should at least been given an ending. Maybe another, smarter network will pick it up and not just for reruns but to continue writing new episodes. Are you out there listening SyFy network..?
If the producers knew two weeks in advance of the finale that there would be no Season II, why did it end with a lot of unanswered questions. Bring it back and complete the Series and call it a mini-series – adding it all up into a neat complete package from beginning to respectable end.
