NBC cancelled Animal Practice but they aren’t ready to throw in the towel on Guys with Kids just yet.
The peacock network has reportedly ordered five more scripts for Guys with Kids. This likely gives the network some more time to decide the show’s future and to keep their options open.
While the new sitcom has not been performing well — the most recent installment drew just a 1.4 demo rating and 4.41 million total viewers — it has been doing better than 30 Rock and Up All Night on Thursdays.
NBC still has Community waiting in the wings but, despite a loyal core audience, that show was only attracting a 1.3 rating and 2.48 million at the end of last season.
Season two of Whitney will replace Animal Practice on November 4th. That sitcom performed better last season but it remains to be seen if viewers will keep tuning in.
What do you think? Are you rooting for Guys with Kids? Do you think the show will get a full season?

I like Guys With Kids. Plus, I figure if NBC can endlessly keep around low-rated shows like 30 Rock & Community, plus renew Whitney after last season’s dismal ratings, why would they automatically cancel this show? It has a good cast and should be given the opportunity find its way. Even Go On isn’t that great and has dipped in the ratings from it’s strong start, but it has the potential to grow into a very good series. I’m glad the network is sticking with some of them.
I’m pretty impressed that the show just snagged 5 more episodes. I don’t mind it and manage to find a few laughs throughout the scenes, but I haven’t been too optimistic about the show sticking around after the axing started. I never had to go out of my way to see the show, because it auto-recorded to my Hopper with the PrimeTime Anytime feature. It’s nice to not invest any effort in the shows that won’t be here, come next year. Now I just need to convince my friends that work with me at DISH to think the same way… Read more »
I like Guys with Kids. Of course, I enjoyed Animal Practice too. These are nice family friendly sitcoms that offer a nice change to other sitcoms I also enjoy like 30 Rock and Community, which I get in trouble for watching with the kids. Of course, I also get to record these on Tivo, and I probably wouldn’t watch them if I had to choose them against better shows on other channels.
