After its debut, it looked like the new Hawaii Five-0 was one of those rare animals — a revival of a classic TV show that didn’t crash and burn immediately. Still, the series isn’t turning out to be as big a success as CBS might like you to believe. The series started off very strong in the ratings but has been losing steam every week.
Hawaii Five-0 debuted on September 20th to a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic (the number that the networks care about) and 14.2 million total viewers. In week two, those numbers dropped 8% but that really isn’t bad for a new show. In week three, they dropped another 3%. This past Monday, they dropped a whopping 11%, hitting a low of a 3.1 rating and 10.7 million viewers.
The CBS series still places first in its timeslot, most closely challenged by Castle. That ABC series registered a 2.7 and 10.66 million viewers this week, up 4% from last week. If Hawaii 5-0’s downward trend continues, it won’t be long before the show loses in the timeslot and could end up in danger by the end of the season. For now, it’ll almost certainly get an order for nine more episodes bringing it to a full season. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.
Interestingly, last year’s timeslot holder, CSI: Miami was doing much better at this point in the season. After four episodes, it was averaging a 4.1 in the demo and 13.72 million while Hawaii Five-0 is currently averaging a 3.5 rating and 12.47 million. Perhaps CBS should have left Miami in its old timeslot.
What do you think? Will Hawaii Five-0 end up surviving past this season? Was it a mistake for CBS to boot CSI: Miami out of its established timeslot?

Leave Hawaii Five O right where it is. It’s a great show that needs some time to develop it’s audience. It’s unfair to compare it’s ratings against the ratings of a show that has an established audience already. Leave Horacio and his crew on Sunday nights – the new time slot might reve up a tired show.
There is no good reason for remaking Hawaii Five-O! The original show holds up very well and has real class. The new Steve McGarrett does not have the style and sincerity of the original Steve McGarret; he seems more like a discarded member of The Beach Boys band than the man in charge of a state police department. I suggest that you buy a dvd set of the original Hawaii Five-O series and, when an episode of this remake is aired, you watch an episode of the original.
I was a fan of the original Hawaii Five-O; it was fine for that era. I watched the re-runs
that Spike showed in early September and the show really looked dated. McGarrett’s
people were always treated like inferior underlings. Furthermore, Kam Fong and Zulu
acted in the manner of deer caught in headlights. And sorry Ron, watching Jack Lord
was like looking at a brick wall. I can’t imagine why anyone would prefer that version.
I like the modern, exciting style of the new show. It has a great , appealing cast and I
hope it survives.
I love Hawaii Five-O and Alex O’Loughlin. I hope last Monday’s numbers were just an aberration because of weather conditions that caused football to be delayed, and that the numbers will be up for next weeks’ episode which looks really hot. For once CBS, please give this show the chance to build its audience, instead of being so quick to cancel. HF-O seems to be loved, by both men and women, in large numbers. If CBS thought they were blasted after killing Moonlight, they’d better prepare for the sh*t-storm they’ll be unleashing if they cancel this show. I feel sorry… Read more »
Love Hawaii Five-0. The most exciting show on TV. Gorgeous cast, fast-paced action, and a great writing team, producers and crew!
cbs has a great hit with hawaii 5-0. the cast is the best and they have great chemistry between them. it looks like that Alex and Scott and Daniel and Grace get along great.
Keep hawaii 5-0 and give a full season and 2 second season. i hope it on tv for along time.
I fully agree with “CJ”, put CSI Miami back on Monday Night!!
It’s hard to compete with Monday Night Football~ and the slot of an already airing show CSI Miami. Time slots are tough though – with all of the channels today, there is SO much competition. Hawaii Five-0 is great! Hawaii – is a challenging place to capture the real local feel. At the same time – outsiders won’t see that – but there needs to be that balance. It’s obvious that they are trying really hard to do it right. A new show also needs time to draw viewers – hype takes time, it isn’t overnight like we all wish… Read more »
you people are just mad they took off your show and put on hawaii 5-0 on monday csi is better on sundays for me i never saw that show and i dont care for that show at all i was happy that they but on hawaii five 5-0 on on mondays it is time for people to let a new show start hawaii five 5-0 is a great show and if cbs takes it off that is a slap in the face to alex o’loughlin they took moonlight that was a great show and there was three rivers they took… Read more »
Putting CSI Miami on Sunday nights at 10 on CBS is a disaster! Football, people, causes delays from the 4:00 games all the way through the night. Even if I watched it “live” as opposed to DVR’ing CSI Miami, I would have had to wait until 10:40 for the SHOW TO START! DVR obviously only recorded 20 minutes, so I missed the episode after Jesse’s death, which really annoys me. Put CSI Miami back where it belongs. Leave Hawaii Five-O alone and let it garner audience approval over an entire season. What the heck is wrong with these networks, that… Read more »
I watch it, but honestly? I like NBC’s CHASE a lot more. I think I’d like H50 more if McGarrett wasn’t always so grim, if he and Danno weren’t always squabblng (seriously, I feel like shouting “get a room!” every time they do that). The plots aren’t anything too new, and while I realize it’s a ‘reboot’, somehow hearing rap music and its ilk just don’t make me think of Hawaii…
they should put CSI Miami back in its oeiginal timeslot.
The show is OK. I think that CBS had a much better show in “The Bridge” which it buried on Saturdays, then cancelled. Why do retreads when there are original, compelling stories like “The Bridge?” That’s network TV for you. What’s next-a new version of “The Addams Family?”
@Bruce: They’re working on a remake of the Munsters. Close enough?
HAHA…YUP!!! I knew it….THEY should of left CSI MIAMI on Modat nights !!! DUH!! lol….. “Miami Mondays!!”…it even rhymes..haha……CHANGE IT BACK!
Hawaii Five-0 is a great and entertaining drama and is also TV’s number 1 show right now. With severe weather conditions and football delay last Monday night, all the networks had lower ratings. This new Hawaii Five-0 is even better and more exciting than the original show, according to my parents and grandparents, who had never missed an episode of the show during the 1970s. CBS will order the back 9 new episodes and a second season of the new Hawaii Five-0. All the fans around the world love this new show. Hawaii Five-0 is a winner!
I love Hawaii Five-O. Keep it on
