After its debut, it looked like the new Hawaii Five-0 was one of those rare animals — a revival of a classic TV show that didn’t crash and burn immediately. Still, the series isn’t turning out to be as big a success as CBS might like you to believe. The series started off very strong in the ratings but has been losing steam every week.
Hawaii Five-0 debuted on September 20th to a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic (the number that the networks care about) and 14.2 million total viewers. In week two, those numbers dropped 8% but that really isn’t bad for a new show. In week three, they dropped another 3%. This past Monday, they dropped a whopping 11%, hitting a low of a 3.1 rating and 10.7 million viewers.
The CBS series still places first in its timeslot, most closely challenged by Castle. That ABC series registered a 2.7 and 10.66 million viewers this week, up 4% from last week. If Hawaii 5-0’s downward trend continues, it won’t be long before the show loses in the timeslot and could end up in danger by the end of the season. For now, it’ll almost certainly get an order for nine more episodes bringing it to a full season. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.
Interestingly, last year’s timeslot holder, CSI: Miami was doing much better at this point in the season. After four episodes, it was averaging a 4.1 in the demo and 13.72 million while Hawaii Five-0 is currently averaging a 3.5 rating and 12.47 million. Perhaps CBS should have left Miami in its old timeslot.
What do you think? Will Hawaii Five-0 end up surviving past this season? Was it a mistake for CBS to boot CSI: Miami out of its established timeslot?

Ok …I am old enough to remeber the original ..and hip enough to say …I LOVE THIS SHOW!! Alex as McGarrett is more action oriented …”Danno” is a hoot ..Kono isn’t bad has a woman and Daniel as Chin Ho …and now they’ve added Mark Dacascos as Wo Fat?
WIN WIN and WIN!! Don’t cancel this show!!! Move it if you must …but between this on Mondays and NCIS/LA on Tuesdays …CBS is becoming my FAVORITE!!!!
Wish you would put CSI Miami back in the old time slot. Really Miss it. The problem is that you never know what time it is going to be with any show on Sunday night because of sporting events on TV. I set my TIVO to record but also have to set the 10:00 news or might miss the end of the show. I do like Hawaii 5-0 and hope the network gives it at least another season because a lot of us really like it although it is hard to compare to the old show but enjoy watching it… Read more »
I LOVE Hawaii 5-0! I never miss an episode. It’s a fun cop show, yes, there is lots of joking but that’s what makes it fun. It’s entertaining and I think the actors have great chemistry. I am SO sick of CBS cancelling all the good shows! If they cancel 5-0 I am boycotting the whole station.
I personally love this show!! I like the dynamic between the characters, the plots are great! I can deal with a move to the 9pm slot and Moving CSI Miami back to 10pm. The Football run over is driving me nuts!! Just don’t cancel it!! This and Leverage are the only 2 shows I look forward to watching every week!
Great show, I look forward to watching it every week. I hope it does well!
To me, the story is the most important thing, not the action or the actors.
Mondays as a whole are so bad for so many reasons, however I look forward to it because of this show. I don’t watch any other of CBS’s monday line-up but this show just rocks! The dynamics between the two main characters is what makes the show work. If you must move it, then move it to an earlier time slot but DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW!! Give it a true shot. Hawaii 5-0 is something original and should be allowed to survive, we the fans deserve this action/suspense/comedy packed relief on mondays. And of course the Alex/Scott combo really helps.… Read more »
I watched one episode and I was hooked. Hawaii 5 0 is so good at capturing action, suspense, and comedy. Both actors must have had some serious training, because their actions are very believable and realistic. Every episode is like a mini movie. It’s assisting. I really hope it lasts many seasons.
I’m from Hawaii. I wanted the show to do well, but it’s amazing that nearly everyone on the show is a mainlander from the main characters, to the bad guys, to the eye candy babes. I guess that’s what sells to the mainland audience. If they wanted to Hollywood-ize the show, they sure succeeded. I hope it continues just to give the local economy a boost, but the plots are kind of weak and I just hate the new Danno. He’s nothing like the classic James MacArthur character. They’re all too young and hip compared to the classic series characters.… Read more »
Get someone new to play Danny. He just isn’t cutting it.
Please DO NOT cancel Hawaii 5-0!!!! I love this show and Alex and Scott are great!! Move it to another time slot if you have too, but PLEASE DO NOT cancel this how!!!
Thank You!!!!!

Give Hawaii Five O a chance. It’s the only show I look forward to seeing each week, wouldn’t miss an episode. Good match of personalities between Steve and Danno. If you do anything move it to a 9:00 time slot, but please don’t cancel it.
This is the worst show iv’e seen in years. The banter back and forth between steve and danno is pathetic.I’ll give it one more season before its given the elbow.
Put CSI Miami back on Monday night! These overrun football games are killing the show. Episode 7 was entirely deleted in the east last and the CBS website had stated it would be shown 11/21/10. It skipped to episode 8 that night. Why is CBS trying to kill one of its consistently better rated shows????
Put CSI Miama back on Mondays!!!! For the love of Pete!! I don’t know which CBS exec makes those decisions, but “Book’em Dan-o”!!!
I grew up watching the old show and still watch it when reruns are available. I like the new show, and agree that next to Blue Bloods it is the best new show of the season. Its different from the original show but then its being broadcast 40 years later. I do agree that there’s too much kidding, but otherwise its a good show and I hope CBS renews it.
