Homeland has returned to Showtime with season five, and the series shows no signs of possibly being cancelled by the network. In fact, both the man behind the series and Claire Danes have spoken about the series having two more seasons.
Danes spoke about where she would like to see her character on the series in an interview with Digital Spy.
“I want her to be okay. I want her to have a more sustained happiness. She is powerful and she should be able to assert that power, but one thing that’s been fascinating to see with the Saul character (Mandy Patinkin) is how he did change when he had more power and how he could afford to be more questioning, more liberal and more empathic when he wasn’t the boss. Then he had to make harder choices and be less reflective, and that was damaging in a lot of ways to his personal relationships. He broke up with his wife, Carrie and he became estranged – and that is explored again this season.”
Just from her answer to that question, it is clear that Claire Danes is very set on continuing with the Showtime. She wants to see the show and her character on its until its end.
This was not the first time for Claire Danes on television, but she definitely had a better time of it this time around. My So-Called Life was cancelled at the end of one season on ABC back in the 1990s.
Danes spoke about how she feels about her role on Homeland as well.
“I don’t feel trapped. That was always a concern when I was deciding to do this, but our writers are so gifted and they are also very determined to keep the show fresh and interesting. There are new themes, there are new cities – and the characters really do change, so I am not playing the same Carrie. She has new facets that are being revealed and explored all the time, so I am not antsy. I really love what we’ve made so far. It’s very ambitious. I’m very motivated to get to the end and sustain that level of commitment, passion and hopefully excellence because it’s an inspiring challenge.”
Claire Danes is clearly committed to Homeland. How much longer will Homeland air on Showtime? Tell us what you think.
It was getting a bit thin by the end of season 6. But if the writers can flesh out a credible story, the interaction between Carrie and and the rest of the world makes this soap opera very enjoyable (and addicting)
Yes, Homeland should be renewed for a sixth season, I understand that Nicholas Brody is dead, however the relationship between father/daughter was estranged when he left for Iran to kill Danesh Akibar (spelled right)?. After that the Brody family was no more..It would be interesting if Carrie went to set the record straight with Dana Brody…And showed her, her baby Franny, who is technically Dana’s half sister…Its might give the Brody family a sense of piece, especially Dana, who seemed to be hit the hardest by the whole thing…Clear the air as to why her father fell in love with… Read more »
Just watched the finale…bummer that Quinn is gone and like his note…they loved but never got together…
Homeland really got me hooked since the beginning and one of the best TV dramas I’ve ever seen with great actors and writers. Wonder if the series will end after seven seasons.
I am with the rest of you. Please keep this series running.
I totally agree. This is a fantastic show with a superb cast. And a great window on what’s really going on out there. Scary stuff…. keep this show going for many more years!
Best show ever! Such a talented cast…love every episode!
I am committed also. Quinn has come into his own.
