canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

In Contempt: Cancelled; No Season Two for BET TV Series

by Trevor Kimball, September 25, 2019

In Contempt TV show on BET: canceled, no season 2

(BET)

The court is adjourned for In Contempt, BET’s legal drama series. The cable channel has cancelled the TV show which starred Erica Ash so there won’t be a second season. THR was the first to report the cancellation.

Set in a New York legal aid office, In Contempt follows outspoken attorney Gwen Sullivan (Ash) as she deals with complicated cases. She works with quick-witted and egotistical lawyer Charlie Riggs (Christian Keyes) and gets advice from her stern father, Earl Sullivan (Richard Lawson), a former judge. Additional cast members include Daniel Kash, Megan Hutchings, Mouna Traore, Ronnie Rowe Jr., and Tobias Truvillion.

The BET series debuted on April 10, 2018, and ran until June 12, 2018. There are 10 episodes.

BET released the following statement: “At this time, BET Networks will not be moving forward with a second season of In Contempt. We are grateful to the incredible cast and producers. We would especially like to thank and recognize the acclaimed Executive Producers Terri Kopp, who created the series, Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron. We look forward to finding ways to continue in partnership. We are also excited to continue our relationship with the star of In Contempt, Erica Ash as she is set to star along Paula Patton in the film Sacrifice premiering this fall on BET+.”

What do you think? Did you like the In Contempt TV show on BET? Should it have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?

I WOULD LIKE TO APPEAL THIS JUDGEMENT! I am totally shocked and lightweight pissed. I’ve been looking for updates on when the new season will start since 2 weeks after the season ended. This was absolutely one of my favorite shows. If it came on opposite to “This Is Us”, as much as I love that show I’d choose “In contempt”. Smarts, wit, passion, and beauty tied in with excellent acting and intriguing story lines and it’s cancelled? I throw myself on the mercy of the court in asking that a retrial be granted for “In Contempt” to be judged… Read more »

I think it should of been renewed for a second season. It was one of the best defense shows on television. I think it should be reconsidered!

No it should not have been canceled. I know I had been waiting for season 2 to come out because I really enjoyed the first season. They also seem to cancel the best shows after 1 season 1 example Rebel and it’s very frustrating because you really get interested in that show & excited to see what’s going to happen in the next season then it doesn’t come.

We are extremely disappointed BET has cancelled InContempt. It was a long overdue positive series that highlighted Black intelligence with a sprinkle of comedy. One episode focused on the reality of crooked murdering cops. That is definitely needed. Perhaps bringing awareness to that horrific truth caused the series cancellation. Guess we’ll just cancel cable. There are too many reruns & no shows of substance on BET & TVOne (Both owned by greedy Viacom).

I agree! I’m down to only watching very few shows on cable and this show was all I was holding on to it for it. I can say the lines with the actors from watching reruns. Put a fork in me— I am done!

I really enjoyed incontempt and I was looking forward to the second season. This is horrible that is not being renewed. This reminds of Being Mary Jane another good show that was canceled.

Loved the show! It had cutting edge and comedy rolled into one. It also had real identifiable story lines. Bring it back!

BET is pathetic when it comes to shows now. Can you actually keep some of your good shows on longer then one season. This was the BEST show on BET and tv period and it gets cancelled. They cancelled “The Quad” and other shows as well. I’m done watching any show that’s an BET original. All they do is kill off shows anyway

That was the best show y’all had. Why you cancelled it makes no sense to me. The storylines were terrific and so was the cast. So sad.

I am disappointed as well. I’ve had my dvr set for a whole year, hoping this show wasn’t cancelled. It was a social conscious show that was in touch with reality of today.

This was a wonderful show. I looked forward to each new episode and because I scheduled it on my DVR was able to watch episodes as many times as I wanted. Very upset that it has been canceled. This was a BET mistake!
