canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

In Contempt: Cancelled; No Season Two for BET TV Series

by Trevor Kimball, September 25, 2019

In Contempt TV show on BET: canceled, no season 2

(BET)

The court is adjourned for In Contempt, BET’s legal drama series. The cable channel has cancelled the TV show which starred Erica Ash so there won’t be a second season. THR was the first to report the cancellation.

Set in a New York legal aid office, In Contempt follows outspoken attorney Gwen Sullivan (Ash) as she deals with complicated cases. She works with quick-witted and egotistical lawyer Charlie Riggs (Christian Keyes) and gets advice from her stern father, Earl Sullivan (Richard Lawson), a former judge. Additional cast members include Daniel Kash, Megan Hutchings, Mouna Traore, Ronnie Rowe Jr., and Tobias Truvillion.

The BET series debuted on April 10, 2018, and ran until June 12, 2018. There are 10 episodes.

BET released the following statement: “At this time, BET Networks will not be moving forward with a second season of In Contempt. We are grateful to the incredible cast and producers. We would especially like to thank and recognize the acclaimed Executive Producers Terri Kopp, who created the series, Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron. We look forward to finding ways to continue in partnership. We are also excited to continue our relationship with the star of In Contempt, Erica Ash as she is set to star along Paula Patton in the film Sacrifice premiering this fall on BET+.”

What do you think? Did you like the In Contempt TV show on BET? Should it have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?

I have been waiting and waiting for the second season only to find out it was cancelled in September! Why BET? This was a great show and prayerfully the writers just go to another network!

I wish the Oprah Winfrey Network would acquire the rights to both “In Contempt” and “The Quad” because it was be quite remarkable for one network to have these two shows along with “Greenleaf”. Just when I thought BET had FINALLY got it by producing it’s own in-house shows (that were GREAT), the network starts airing replays of Martin, Family Matters and the shows that have passed their respective time.

Wake up BET before The OWN reads this and responds accordingly!

I am so disappointed. This was the only court drama show that I have watched and actually caught my attention. Was excited to look forward to season 2.

This was one of the best legal dramas on television! The storylines were current, well thoughtout and flawlessly executed! It was wonderful to see professional Black men & women living and working together. I am so disappointed that BET would cancel a show of this calibre!!

I’d definitely watch a second season. It was an amazing show. That’s what pisses me off about BET. They’ve made some amazing series lately, but never stick with them. Picked up hit the floor just to cancel it. The quad was great and canceled that, in contempt, and some others. BET need to get it together

yes I would watch every episode if they continued on with a season 2. They left a lot of good story plots unanswered just not fair to the viewers.

I think it definitely deserved a second season. It kills me when networks don’t even give shows a fighting chance to be great. The last episode left so much to be desired in an upcoming season. BET owes it to the viewers/fans of the show to have some type of closure.

They should run a second season of the show. It had a positive influence and showed what it is to be a successful black person in America. Love this show. Erica Ash and the entire cast did an phenomenal job demonstrating this very fact.

I’m highly disappointed! First it took over a year to cancel it! And then it was a great show! Lawyer shows are a big thing nowadays. I feel like it spoke to the audience. It was not short of excitement. Very well directed! I was literally checking every month to see if there was gonna be season 2!!! I hope someone picks up this series! Don’t give up! BET you made a huge mistake!

I’m sad…. I really loved that show… I love Erica Ash! BET seems to cancel all shows after the first season. I loved Rebel and that’s gone too… ain’t nothing on BET
