Kevin James and The King of Queens TV show were staples of the CBS schedule for many years. Now, James is back on Monday nights with a new comedy, Kevin Can Wait. Is it a hit in the ratings and a success with viewers? Will it stay on the air and be renewed for a second season? Cancel or keep it?
Kevin Can Wait revolves around Kevin Gable (Kevin James), a newly retired police officer. After 30 years on the force, he’s looking forward to relaxing and spending quality time with his wife (Erinn Hayes) and their young kids (Mary-Charles Jones and James DiGiacomo). That plan goes awry when his elder daughter (Taylor Spreitler) and her fiance (Ryan Cartwright) move in. As a result, Kevin’s retirement dreams get put on hold. Kevin’s retiree friends are played by Leonard Earl Howze, Gary Valentine, and Lenny Venito.
The series debuted on September 19th with a 2.58 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.08 million viewers. That was a very good start. The second episode saw an increase in the demo rating and a slight decline in viewers. The third installment fell in both categories and the fourth dropped again, registering a 2.11 in the demo with 8.70 million. While the ratings for Kevin Can Wait are still quite healthy, it is a bit concerning that they are continuing to fall.
It’s also worth noting that the show’s real test will come once its high-rated lead-in, The Big Bang Theory, moves back to Thursday nights. Starting October 24th, Kevin will shift to 8pm and will be expected to draw viewers to the CBS schedule. That’s a much tougher position to be in, particularly for a new show that hasn’t had much time to build a devoted audience.
For now, Kevin Can Wait is in no danger of being cancelled. CBS just ordered nine more installments, bringing the first season tally to 22 episodes. Will there be a second season? That will all depend on how well the series performs in the next several months without a strong lead-in. It will likely be a struggle.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Kevin Can Wait TV show? Do you think that it should stay on the air or, that CBS should replace it with something else? Cancel or keep it?
how about keep the new cbs sitcom: kevin can wait, and they will renew the season the 2nd on march 20th.
Show is pretty good, but the actress that plays Kevin’s wife is AWFUL! Hire a new “wife” or cancel!
So disappointed to read all the negative comments. Please renew for season two!
This show sucks. Not funny at all
Do us all a favor….Cancel it.
Kevin James is spent….his routine is
old, repetitive and not funny. Find something
else that is remotely entertaining and fire the person
who came up with the idea for this disaster of a sit-com.
Horrible…cancel it!!!
I love this show!! I hope they continue it for a second season
Ugh garbage. I’m not a Kevin james fan but i did like tge king of queens. Cancel.
I really wanted to like this show, but am just disappointed. I have enjoyed everything else Kevin James has done, but this one is truly awful. There is no chemistry between him and his wife, and the dialogue is definitely lacking. I agree with the other comments that they should bring back Leah Remini and King of Queens with kids.
Hell yeah!
I would love to see Kevin and his wife actually show affection, and kiss once in a while.
I do think Kevin James is funny but I cannot get into the show because Erinn Hayes is a horrible choice for his wife. They have no chemistry, the marriage is not believable. Would have been way better with a Liza Snyder type female character. I’m sure she’s a great actress but this is not the role she needs to play.
This show is a dismal, dated and tired. It should be off the air as I write this. Kevin J is also overrated as an actor and comedian. He is just rehashing his Queen of Kings character. Ugh even then. It just takes up a good slot for a better show. CBS should air it in rerun on Saturday nights after midnight.
This show SUCKS!! Stop wasting air time with this show, I’d rather watch reruns of King of Queens
I think it is awful and dated. He resorts to comedy lines so similar to his former show. I also feel Leah Remini was so realistic as his wife and so funny. His wife on this show is like plain vanilla no personality and they don’t have chemistry.
