We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

My wife, myself and mother in law are dissapointed. This hsow was good and given time would of been something for fox. This was the first show in years on a network that my family got into. I guess we will just stick with the shows still on HBO, Showtime like Weeds, Dexter, Entourage & The Big C. Very upset will not be able to see how Lone Star was going to get [layed out with the story line.
Two many commercials, not enough of the show. 5 min. of ads (7 total) and 4 min. of the show come on it’s not the shows fault !!
Thay need to find another network !!
It was a new and refreshing storyline, I was captivated and looking forward to tonight’s episode. You have to give it a fair shot before you decide that we are in the minority.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS OF THE SEASON…ALL OF MY FRIENDS LOVED IT TOO. IT WAS FINALLY DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE MEDICAL , LEGAL AND FORENSIC SHOWS THAT SEEM TO DOMINATE THE NETWORKS. THE EXECS AT FOX NEED TO GIVE IT ANOTHER TRIAL RUN. IT WAS AN INTERESTING AND INNOVATIVE CONCEPT…PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
Why. Me and my Husband really loved this show
Very disappointed, we really liked this show.
This show didn’t do much for me because of the previews, i saw a guy who was forced to have two lives one with a woman who loves and another with a woman who would take him places… seemed stupid to me.
Finally a unique show about a subject that could rub many the wrong way. I guess American TV audiences just weren’t ready for something other that a crime show or medical-based sex fest. At times it was a little hard to watch because the behavior issocially reprehensible. But as I got into the story it became intriging. I did wonder, even if accepted by the viewers, how long the story line could last. All in all I have to take my hat off to FOX for trying something uniquely different.
Loved the show. Loved the characters and actors … the lead actor is especially endearing. I think the problem is not enough promotion, and it is stiff competition for a new show without a following. You read about so many shows that flopped the first few weeks, then were great successes. I don’t understand how a show could be cancelled after airing only two episodes.
I have just found out that the series was cancelled. I am disappointed because, I do not get my husband to watch that type of thing very much, but we were BIG “24″ fans. I did get him to watch it the first night. It was a bit hard to follow the first week as we knew nothing about the series. Then the second week, we tuned in and were much better able to put it all together and look forward to the next week’s episode , which would have been tonight. I think they should have given it at least… Read more »
In all actuality, I would never leave a comment, but I am that upset the show was cancelled. I was a big fan. this show was the only good show on Monday nights. I am angry even.
This is just nuts! However FOX is measuring viewership has got to be wrong since everyone I know loved Lone Star and would have continued watching it. Hill Street Blues never would have made it if it had been judged on just the first two episodes for heavens sake.
I liked this show as well. How can a show gain an audience if it is cancelled after 2 or 3 shows?
Wow…as my mom used to say…”Give it a chance Jean”…told all my friends about this show…it was great…totally unique…
I liked it, seemed interesting. Was going to record it today and when I couldnt find it I was bummed:/ Only thought I had was maybe it was giving some viewers the wrong idea? With the economy being so bad, maybe the producers where worried it was sending off the wrong message. People could get ideas on how to be crooks, make easy money, rob banks, and lie. Not like the world isnt like that already……
