We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

It is insane that a network would hype a show like this and just cancel it after 2 episodes. Complete a season or don’t bother to advertise it and draw in fans.
I, lilke many of the previous posts, thought the show had potential and was surprised to see it cancelled so quickly. If they paid to produce 5 episodes, why not air them all and see if more viewers would have found the show and stayed with it. Sometimes, new shows take some time to get a following. The acting was good and the story line was different from the typical genres of family comedy, cop/crime drama, lawyers, or hospitals. FOX doesn’t exactly crush in prime time ratings and they had a chance with this one…
I watched the first 2 episodes, went on vacation for a week, and came home frantically trying to find the show. I thought it had come on after “House” on Monday nights. (I’m older and still forget to go to the internet to find info.) I was searching all of the stations trying to find it. Today I found these websites announcing the end of the show. What??!! Yes, James Wolk was a little unsympathetic as the lead person, but who cares?? With his looks and acting ability, well….I just REALLY liked it. Only thing was that I didn’t like… Read more »
I loved the show Lone Star and hate to see it go. I had just started telling everybody at work about it. I’m sure if they would have continued with the show the viewers would have picked up.
I was bummed. This was the one new show this season that had promise. Like Dexter it did a good job of making you dislike the main character while at the same time making him understandable
I enjoyed the show and was wondering what happened. put it back on air my family and I want to finish watching the season
I really enjoyed the show, FOX needs to just give it a little more time and I’m sure it`ll be a hit. They should have given it a chance to gain popularity in a different time slot.
Maybe it would have worked better as a movie. I don’t think they had enough material to make a series that would have lasted a long time.
The show was great, and I was just getting into it. Please, please, BRING IT BACK. Lie to me sucks, this show was unique and different. It just needs to be aired after the MLB series is over.
I think it was only semi-addicting. The problem was I just didn’t like the lead actor’s smirk. His character is less like-able then Sawyer from Lost. (similar trades n such)
The other main problem is you know what’s going to happen. Too predictable. Example –There will be an episode where it all comes crashing down around him. I’m not sure I’d root for him to get out of it.
It turned my stomach to watch the main character con people — and I was supposed to find him sympathetic because his daddy made him do it. Sure, there are all kinds of “sympathetic” criminals on TV & the movies, but personally I just couldn’t sit through watching this one. I’m not surprised that other viewers couldn’t stomach it either.
I thought the show was really good, maybe it should not have been on at the same time as Dancing with the Stars.
Please bring it back – can the series Lie to Me….
The show should dump David Keith, and maybe the viewers will come back.
It’s a shame that Fox put a great show like “Lone Star” up against the dreadful “Dancing with The Stars” which is usally #1 during it’s time slots on both Monday and Tuesday nights. James Wolk has big star potential – hopefully, he’s get more opportunities for work.
I actually went home looking for the show. I first saw Lone Star while at the beach on the pay TV previews…they actually showed the entire 1st episode. I looked forward to it starting then too. Anyway, I think that this show could have won over some people through word of mouth. Just hope it’s not replaced with another reality *****ing with the
Stars or junk like that.
