Lone Star: FOX TV Show Cancelled After Two Episodes

by Trevor Kimball, September 28, 2010

Lone StarWe all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.

Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.

The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.

Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.

Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.

Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.

What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?

UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Bring back lone star. They should have aired the episodes multiple times to get more people the chance to see it.

Every season, when new shows come on that might interest me, I try to watch at least the first 3 episodes to see if I want to see the entire season. I made it through 2 episodes of The Event, and stopped and I watched the first 2 episodes of Lone Star and wanted more. I must have terrible taste in tv shows! Everytime I get hooked on a new show, it seems like they take it off! Sometimes I get a season or two, (like with Pushing Daisies and Eli), but I LOVE tv shows, and it’s so disapointing… Read more »

I want Lone Star back. I was really into it. I was very upset when I sat down to watch it and to my disappointment it wasn’t on. If another channel airs it I will rearrange my schedule to watch.

In two episodes, we only see that the two main stars are scalawags that have ruined many lives, have always lived behind lies and that they are inclined to continue their flim-flam ways. I was hoping for a Paper Moon sort of exoneration of their morals but when they trampled marriage, they trampled my hopes for a decent comeback. I quit watching after two episodes anyway so I wasn’t surprised when i Googled “Lonestar” and auto-complete offered “cancelled”. Good riddance.

Wow! they give more air time to the dumbest shows and topics? Give this show a chance. I have it set in my DVR so in case some one is smart enough to bring it back?

Bring back Lone Star. Great show so far. FOX never really gave anybody a chance to get into it. Good story line, great charecters, and I’m biased towards to the locations too. There were so many ways that you could go with the story line each episode. Bring it back FOX, or I hope some other network picks it up.

the morals of this show were horrible. had they left him married to the rich woman trying to scandal his way into the company and left the blond out, may have been a little better. many people i spoke with stopped watching for this reason. and the title, the producers could have been a little more creative now. thanks for taking this show off fox, lie to me is a much better show anyway

Huh? jr, you make no sense. You want to talk morals, and then you bring up Lie to Me. Lie to Me has horrible acting with little direction if any. And really, Lie to Me. They couldn’t come up with a better title. Really. Boring. Yaawwwnnnn…..

Re “Lone Star” I was looking forward to giving the show a chance. I didn’t have the opportunity to do that…canceled before I could watch even 1!! I have to like the fact that TV producers often do what they did to the the series “Lone Star”…….act the complete morons they so often are!! It makes ME feel like a real genious compared to them and their idiotic, premature decisions to change something that they never gave a legitimate chance. So glad their types weren’t running the Am. Revolution back in the 1700s. Eg.:: No “Cheers” or “Dick vanDyke Shows”… Read more »
