Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

Consumed with life, I had no idea that this episode would be the last. I was shoked and deeply saddened, as I have adored this show since its beginning. Thank you for entertaining me through.the last 7 years. Friday night will never be the same.
Sincerely
Heather long
I was incredibly sad. It made me cry. I enjoyed the episode but am so sorry it has to be over. It is one of my favorite shows.
I loved the show I saw it since it started my my husband and my Mom loved the show we are sad that ended……………we are going to buy all the season of to keep them with us we loved them.
I was a faithful watcher of Medium. It was a GREAT ending and I will miss it.
Im just so sad to see this series end! I’m heartbroken! Im glad allison & joe will be forever in love and have each other for eternity. But there was so much to it! I will truely miss watching Medium on Friday nights. I am left unfulfilled 🙁
I really cannot believe that I watched the final episode of Medium, (even though I never missed one) it seems like it just started. Everyone of the actors did a great job and I loved the Dubois family. I sure hope I see them all acting in the future. Hey, maybe it was all a dream and they will return next week. One could only hope. Was this suppose to be a big and awful surprise to all its faithful viewers? I’m glad it is in my DVR so I can watch it again and wave back to all (I… Read more »
I was surprised and disappointed that it was the end of the series. It was one of the few shows that my husband and I watched together. I guess since the show was centered on dreams and death, that both played a major part of the finale. It was sad to think she lived so many years alone, but to see them together again was uplifting. I’ve only watched 1 episode of Beverly Hills Housewives, and Allison Dubois was on it. She was a total *****. Thank goodness they didn’t portray the ugly side of her on the show or… Read more »
I love the character Joe and the actor (Jake Weber) who plays him so much. I hate that they killed him off. It’s not right besides the real Joe is very much alive.
Will miss Medium and had a great time watching Patricia Arquette and her family and her TV family go through that show. Flawless writing but at times contrived but I loved it all.
Looking forward to other shows of that caliber but I won’t hold my breath.
It was a horrible way to end the show. 7 years of Joe and Allison being together. Raising their family. To end it with Joe dead and Allison having carry on without him. Just gies against the show and how they were written as such a strong couple. The ending was a rip off of Titanic.
it sad to see it end
A great run. One for the books. Will be missed.
i cried!!!! very sad,, she had to live 41 years without him,, then died,, they were united,, but i had a hard time with that one,,,,
i had a hard time with that too.i cried my eyes out!
My sister and I were in shock since we had no idea the show was being cancelled. we both loved the show. I kept waiting for Allison to wake up from the dream. Very, very disappointed that the show is cancelled. The actor that played the middle child was unbelievable. I feel that if the show had to end it should have been a two night finale instead of rushing all of it into one way too quick ending.
Very sorry the show was cancelled!!!!
It made me cry. I HATE that the show is over. I loved that show.
I feel like they cancel all the good shows and replace them with ******** I don’t even want to watch. The finale was clever, though. I will miss the family. I’m glad Joe an Alison got to be together in the end. I really appreciated the ethical and family themes of the show.
I cannot believe you have cancelled this show forever! Every week I look forward to watching an episode of Medium … I even watch the re-runs! The storyline is so unique to all the current weekly shows … it’s entertaining with comedy & suspense … what am I going to watch now? I hate reality shows and all the other shows are based on cops & lawyers. Boo hoo! Today is a very sad day!
