Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

I really liked Medium, I didn’t even realize it was going to be the final show, I would love to see it come back on again.
I hated it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was terrible! I cried for 45 min, how do you kill Joe!
Will somone tell me what the hell just happened? We were watctching our show medium like we always do. I kept waiting for her to wake up and she catches the bad guy again like always. They didnt really talk about on talk shows or even to say watch the final episode. like coming attreactions or anything. Wow! This is a very odd suprise I will miss it. I am so disgusted.
I don’t like the fact that they made Joe die. I don’t know why they could nor have made it happier. Joe could have lived to have been in his 70’s at least with Allison dying a few yrs later.
I loved the show to see end I find very sad. I had not idea this was going to be the last episode, so to me it was a shock.
Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!
It was devastating! Very sad; I’m not sure I liked it because of the sad emotion.
I loved the show and did not realize it was being cancelled. I shall miss it just as I miss another show – cancelled too – Ghost Whisperer. It seems that some higher ups have it in for successful women in lead roles. Too bad. Guess hospital shows and police shoot em ups are what sells for the networks.
I am disappointed that the show is cancelled. Why make the show appear to go into the future when really, we’ll never get to see it. I’ll miss Allison & Joe!!!
I have loved this show since the beginning. I am glad that CBS picked it up when it lost its home at NBC. I hate to see it go! I really enjoyed every single episode and was always excited to see what unique situation they would be in next. I grew to love them all and appreciated Patricia Arquette more and more over the years! She is an amazing actress and the cast was as well. I will miss them, but if it had to go, I am glad they gave us some closure (albeit it, in a very fast… Read more »
NO!!! I love Medium! I didn’t know they were ending the series. What devastation!! Love you Allison & Joe!! :'(
I was very disappointed in the ending. At most it was very confusing through the entire episode. I hate the show is being canceled.
I did not know this was the season finale until the end of the show. (TiVo). I am sad and disappointed that this was the last show. I loved everything about the show, the plots, the actors and actresses, the family life that I can relate too, and the simplicity yet captivating storylines. Very sad it is over. I will miss you all. The best to all of you Dubois family :-), snif, sniff.
I was disappoint that the show is ending. I just started watching it about a year ago and I really liked it.
I did like the last episode, although all the different time periods were a bit annoying. The ending was nice though. Joe was definitely at his best in the last scene.
I had no idea the show was ending. This episode was creatively written, superbly acted, and hands down THE BEST “last show” I have EVER seen. I will miss this show terribly.
