Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

The show was okay; but it stinks that it was the last one! At least you didn’t leave us hanging…
Would love to see it return~~~~~~~~~~~~Why do all the good shows go away??????
I loved the finale. I hate when shows leave you wondering what happened so I loved that the series finale of Medium actually went into the future to show us how everything turned out. The best part was in the end when Alison dies and then she realizes that Joe is still there waiting for her. That was the.best.part. I also really liked that each actor had a little goodbye for the camera at the end. Fantastic Finale! I will miss Medium and the Dubois family. Thanks for many great years of entertainment! You will be missed!
What I liked?
It was a great episode.
What I didn’t like?
I didn’t know the show was ending.
=..(
sucked!!!I never write comments…appeared to try to copy six feet under ending going years ahead. Ridiculous! Looks like a hodge podge of a story that the writers threw together quickly because they didn’t have time or interest to do anything better. I did not know the show was ending .They should have used at least two episodes to try to develop a realistic plot, to prepare viewers, and then give viewers in the second episode some time to mourn.Giving fans 2 minutes to realize this was not a dream that Allison was not going to awake from(like she ALWAYS does)… Read more »
This show in the past had been so wonderful. My daughter and I thought the finale was really poorly done. It was just slapped together with a lot of unrealistic nonsense. They should tried to have the show on a few more weeks to try to make a better ending to the series. I am wondering if another network could still pick it up. This show deserved a better fate than this. Good shows are always taken off without trying a different day or time to see if they will gain a larger audience. CBS did not try hard enough… Read more »
Total shocker. Didn’t know it was going to be last episode. I so look forward to it each week. Very sad to see it go. The writers, actors and everyone just did a wonderfully creative seven years and it will be missed.
i think it was great, although i didn’t know it was ending until the end when the characters were saying good-bye. why did it end? i guess all good things come to an end.
i said to my daughter i think the show was it’s last, so that’s when i googled it. is there anyway it’ll come back?
It blew me away, as I did not realize that it was going off the air. It was one of the few shows that I tried never to miss.
I am really sorry to see it go.
I am so upset I had no idea the show was ending . First you take Ghostwhisper know Medium. I was so glad CBS pickup the show. You did a great job with the show , But know what do i watch. I am very sad. Joe and Allison did a great job. So very sad sad .
Bad end to an excellent show. She looses the love of her life and ends up alone. (Yes kids and grandkids abound but that is not someone to grow old with.) NOT a good end. It implys she would sell out as a lawyer as well. BAD writing but excellent acting as usual.
It was good, satisfying end to one of the more unique shows on television. It had all the plot twists, drama, and emotional satisfaction long time series followers would expect. It allowed the viewer to see how the lives of the characters would turn out, all the way up until their deaths, which leaves the one with a nice, satisfied feeling of completion. Defiantly a great finale, unlike certain other shows that simply left viewers feeling LOST. I’m sad to see such a unique and well played show end, but at least it was done with the viewers feelings in… Read more »
Too sad…I loved the show. If it were back on Monday nights, it could have made all the difference. I still remember the first episode.
I hated that the show had to be cancelled because I loved that show. Me and my family would all sit down and watch it together. I did not like it that Allison had to live forty one long years without her love. It was very sad and devistating to me and my family. The only good thing is that they reunited when she died.
It felt like it was a hurry up way to end the show. No warning, just hey, this is the end, we are killing off Joe. Did not like it at all. Felt cheated as far as saying goodbye to a very good show. Watched it from the beginning and sad to see it go.
I am saddened to see that Medium has been canceled. I think it is ridiculous to cancel such a well crafted show. The last episode was well done but I still feel this series had a lot more to give. It is unfortunate that some of the best shows get canceled because the network feels the ratings are not good enough. There are many shows that seem to keep on going no matter how the ratings are. I do not think that Medium was given a significant time to settle in with it’s new network. There was not full confidence… Read more »
