Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

I’m glad it’s over, I won’t be forced to sit and put with this crap any longer. No one would put up with that woman’s one way phsyco trash. She has pushed the joe around with her phsycotic crap since their wedding day. No one is worth the **** she pulled in the show. Do you know why joe died and didn’t come back until the end of the last show? Because he want to get away from her. One less crap show to watch. CBS is what in forth or fifth place in the ratting, why shows like these… Read more »
I knew the series was going to end at some point, but I do not like this ending 🙁 I would have loved to have a happy ending for a change 🙁
I thought last night’s series finale was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry to see it end and must say Saving Grace was always my favorite series finale now I have TWO! Good luck to all the cast!!!!! Brought me to tears!!!!
Was a fan from the very first eopisode, so normally I wouldn’t expect to like the last episode, since it never seems like the story ends right. But this one was, in my humble opinion, almost perfect. Maybe the only episode that didn’t have a (“real”) crime solved, but of course the real crime was the show’s cancellation. Can’t think of a better wayfor it go out. Bye, Allison! Bye, Joe! See ya later, girls! Best of luck, Manuel and Lee! We’ll dream about you!
Dissapointed! I didn’t realize it was the last episode until the very end. Very sad to see it go.
My husband and I and family enjoyed watching for Medium to come on. We enjoyed it til last night and we found that it was the last one. I dont understand tv or hollywood why they cut off all the good tv shows you put on. Medium like so many others has bit the dust. Its a shame.
Why does everyone think that change is necessarily a good thing? Seven seasons, 130 episodes, and I’ve probably seen all of them. Why, because for the most part it was quality television that held my attention, unlike so much of what is being produced in the world of reality television. This caught me off guard. I had not heard that the show was being cancelled. Such an abrupt ending and goodbye to characters who have been a part of family room viewing for so many years. Gratitude to the writers and the actors who gave me a show worth watching… Read more »
At first i didnt like how it was ending but the ended it good though I would have liked it better if the show didnt end with them dieing kinda of ruined it for me to when they killed off Joe so early in his life kinda thing like just seemed pointless though was a good episode
I think a lot of viewers did not realize last night was the series finale, so that disapointed them even more. I was so upset to find this out also. Medium was one of my favorite shows. I didn’t care for the episode that much. Killing off Joe made me cry. I did however like to see each of the actors at the end. I will greatly miss the Medium family…
I will miss the show! But what a way to go out!!! I wish the cast and crew the best. Hope to see more of them.
I had no idea this show was ending. Now I will have no reason to stay home on Friday nights, as there is nothing else on TV worth watching. This was my favorite show, and I am still struggling today with the idea that it is over. I hated having Joe die, but sadly, that is what happens in life, and it has happened twice within my own family. The very end, where Allison dies, was excellent. Everyone was in a good place in their lives, and viewers are not just left hanging wondering what happened to the family. Having… Read more »
most depressing thing I ever saw, hated it
Ok…..well i guess its over big mistake unless. You have the daughters come back to
continue were Allison left off. Food for thought, then maybe I will forgive you (LOL) Sorry
to see it end I loved the show ,not just the character, all the actors as well.

I loved the series ending. Although, I am going to miss the DuBois family! I have watched from the beginning, and was unaware that it had been cancelled. I, too, wish it could have been a 2 hours finale. But, I did love how it showed where everyone was in their lives….and I especially liked the actors farewell to us!! The will be missed!!!! Shame on CBS for cancelling yet another really great show!!!!
Sometimes it is better to let a show end without a formal ending. To think that Allison had to live a long 41 years without her soulmate was sad. There were so many better ways to end the Medium. The ending seemed forced and unnecessary. Just a unfulfilling way to end a great show….
