Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Very disappointing news. I love that show. I look forward to recording it every week. Great cast, great story. I hope ABC reconciders their decision.
I know so many people who were hooked on this show……it’s hard to believe ABC has decided to cancel it! The best action/drama on TV and the only show I watched on a regular basis on ABC. Each episode was like a short movie with GREAT writing, acting and cinematography; I will certainly miss it. And what a way to end it — with a cliffhanger. Poor planning, ABC!
I really don’t watch primetime tv. I watch the news, HGTV,and a good movie.
This is the first and only show I watch and you are going to cancel it? You finally put on a show with great acting, great plot, fantastic settings and you cancel it!
What are you thinking?
I hope you reconsider. I am sure there are many other people who agree.
I watched “Missing” from the first episode through the tenth and loved the show. It moved along very fast, probably too fast for today’s level of intelligence. Ashley Judd was absolutely great as the mother who’s son is missing, and every member of the cast did an outstanding job. I was very sorry ABC didn’t stick with the show one more season, the last show did have a cliff hanger ending. But since when have the ‘suits’ in the ivory towers, who just keep adding more commercials all the time, ever really had the guts to stick with shows that… Read more »
It seems ABC only cares about airing shows based on mindless sex. Shows like missing, body of proof, castle, and the like are my favorite… clean and entertaining. I can’t believe the junk ABC is airing and renewing. Missing wasn’t the best at first but then my husband and I were hooked. They barely gave this show half a chance… I think ratings are low because people record more and more these days. I only record shows. I never watch a show when its aired because of commercials. I think television networks need to look at this trend before deciding… Read more »
I can not believe that ABC cancelled this show, watched it every Thursday faithfully. It was one of the BEST shows on the tv and now we will be bombarded with all those stupid reality shows.Who gives a dam what other people are doing with their lives with a camera following their every move.Tv now sucks.
One of the best shows on ABC. Actually, it’s the ONLY show I watch on ABC. Outstanding acting, fast pace, reminiscents of Fox’s 24. Cannot believe it is canceled.
I am sooooooo disappointed that ABC cancelled this series. I hope the network reconsiders. There are so few shows on main network channels that are worth watching, but Missing was certainly one that was. Every week I looked forward to Thursday. Missing is well-written, beautifully acted, with gorgeous scenery, believable plot line. Every episode was mesmerizing and captivated and kept my interest, and each left me wanting more. VERY few shows–on network or cable channels–do that. It appears that idiots are making this stupid decision, and replacing a wonderful, intelligent, show with mind-numbing dog doo. Shame on them!
I am sooooo disappointed that the show is being cancelled. ABC started showing it in the last third of the season against some very established programs. No wonder the rating were down. No wonder ABC is not one of my favorite or most watched station. Bring it back for season two.
the best show in a long time, I loved it!!!! Please renew it!
OK… I can see that with declining viewership, ABC had cause to cancel. But, and this is a big BUT!! did anyone in scheduling bother to see that putting anything up against the likes of DWTS and American Idol time slots was the equivalent of committing ratings suicide? This show would probably have a consistent 2.5- 3.0 share in another time slot preferably on a day and time that is not opposite some popular reality contest. Lets be real here. I do hope that another network or cable channel picks up this series and carries on where ABC left off!!
I record many shows because I work long hours and am not always at home when they air. First one I look at when I catch up – MISSING – it left as a cliff hanger…really, is it truly gone??? Please say it is coming back.
Great stories, locations and cast. Adult level script complexity led to the lack of 19-40 demographic, but ABC could have done more to save it. I felt that the story was good for two seasons, one for getting the son back and another for catching “suspect zero” . By then it might have had a following. Ten episodes does not a series make, another good one bites the dust.
I love this show. My daughter and I dvr this show every week. These networks need to look into how many people are watching these shows on dvr. Because of other things that may come up you are not always able to watch a program at the time it airs on tv.
So disappointed! It was a great show!I ain’t watching duets!
