Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

great show ashley was great too. we watched everyweek and thought it would be renewed. hope abc can bring it back with her but i donot think so. most tv shows get cancelled because tv executives do n ot have a clue as what we like or not plus alot of shows are taped at home for later viewing so how do they know what we like and when we watch it. this happened with las vegas
ABC; by cancelling Missing and not giving it a chance, maybe with another time slot, you are giving your viewers NOTHING good to watch!
I agree that is an action packed, well written show that left us anxious to watch next weeks episode.
We haven’t felt this way (HOOKED) about a TV show since Dallas!
But since when has the networks EVER thought about their Viewers, and what they want.
ABC, WHATS WRONG WITH YOU.
We are so very disappointed that Missing was cancelled. It was one of the best shows we have seen in years. Don’t know why the ratings were so low. They certainly never asked us our opinion! Figures, it will probably be replaced with yuet another stupid sitcom or reality show! Guess I will go back to reading…
I found myself not caring. I didn’t look forward to another season.
Finally a show that you couldn’t wait for Thursday to get here… So over reality shows…
This was well written with great actors . I don’t get it. Guess ABC is looking for a demographic that just likes to watch the noise which is what most of the programs they didn’t cancel are.
I’m so frustrated with all TV networks! I am fet up! You want ti know why these shows don’t make it??? Because no one wants to invest their time and energy into a show that you know they’re going to turn around and cancel at the end of the season. I’m ready to boycott tv all together! Give a show s chance. I dont ever realize that i like s new show until my other schefuled shows aren’t. On or I come across them by accident. ABC definitely disappointed in you! Missing was awesome I’m dying to know what happened… Read more »
Was a very good show!! They need to give it more of a chance.
Maybe if we make another noise they will listen!
Loved this show and am disappointed it wasn’t renewed. Looked expensive to produce and wonder if that played into network decision. Wish powers that be would stop trying to dummy down their audiences. This was the last new network show I’m going to invest in as a viewer. Each time they come out with something with substance, it goes away too soon. And if I have to watch even so much as a commercial for a reality show, well…let’s just say I won’t be happy. Maybe Missing could find a new home on cable? It’s happened before with other shows… Read more »
My husband and I absolutely loved this show. Amazing show; cast was exceptional. We just watched the finale this morning. I hope they reconsider or another network takes it. There’s too much no-brain TV in all the reality shows…because they are less costly to produce I’m sure.
Missing is the first network series my wife and I have watched in years…decades! There is no other show like Missing, and ABC, you’ve lost us again. I doubt that we’ll ever be back. We loved this series…what a shame.
BTW: Same with Harry’s Law. A GREAT show…they take it off but leave on stupid shows…I also heard the viewers were too old! and they took Sue Simmons off the news! Now will watch other channels.
I too am sick and tired of the reality shows…and yes what was the last 30 mintues all about. Stop putting shows on and not giving them a chance…and to boot no ending! I’m sick of watching.
I found the show to be exciting and well written and kept me on the edge of my seat, I am so sorry to hear it was cancelled. It was a highlight of my Thursday night viewing, Missing, Gray, and Scandal? Who decides these things? Ashley Judd and Sean Bean are great actors, the writing and acting spectacular. There are so many other shcws staying on that are not worthy, PLEASE reconsider another go for Missing.
Both my husband and I are VERY DISAPPOINTED that ABC has cancelled Missing! It was action-packed and left us on the edge of our seats anxious to watch the next episode! Thank goodness we dvr’d the whole series so we can go back and re-watch the story unfold again. PLEASE ABC…..Bring it back or you will be missing US watching ABC!
I agree with BEACHBABE. “Missing” was a great show but placed at a bad time opposite established shows. I know that we had to record it and watch it later because of shows that over-lapped with “Missing”.I’m really dissappointed. It would have done better, I think, at a different time.
I just found out that “Missing” has been canceled and I am so PO’d I cannot tell you! I felt that this series was really, really good. It had all the elements….suspense, intrigue, love story, excitement…..it really kept you glued to the set for that whole hour. Now, with the final episode leaving the heroine “missing” in action, I am left wanting more. Obviously the demographic that they rely upon to make these decisions would rather watch so-called reality shows or sit-coms, because that is beginning to be all that is out there. Myself and my husband thoroughly enjoyed this… Read more »
