Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

You HAVE to renew this show. It is the best. I can’t wait each week to watch it.
Fianlly a great show.Love the action, sites, characters. there are so many directions to take the show. KEEP it on!!!
I wonder if they take into consideration all the viewers who watch the show on things like hulu because they can’t afford cable… do those viewers count? Maybe the ratings are off because they don’t?
I liked and enjoyed the show very much, but I wondered from the very beginning how long they would be able to keep it going without making it drag out. Although each episode was intense and held my attention, the twists and turns in the plot were not always believable, they only lengthened the story and increased the level of violence and gratuitous nastiness, without adding anything by way of character development or plot resolution. In addition, there is too much blurring of the boundaries of good and evil, self interest and generosity, and so on. I liked the way… Read more »
Again with the cancellation of a good show!! I’m very disappointed ABC. So we don’t get any closure AGAIN!!! You have very few shows worth a darn and now you cancel this one. Im sick of mindless comedies and stupid reality shows. It seems like you think anyone in you (stupid) demograpgic of 18 – 49 doesnt have a brain, therefore couldn’t possibly enjoy anything other than comedies and reality programs. Well CBS proves that theory wrong! Think I’ll stick with CBS. They seem to be the only ones who keep quality shows running longer than one season. You’ve lost… Read more »
Ditto Ditto Ditto to above. You have lost two viewers here. We will go back to Premium Channels and Dvd’s.
Missing was the best show on ABC. Always on the edge of your seat excitement. I wish they didn’t cancel it. I don’t watch ABC very much so I guess it just got lower.
My husband and I watched every episode of Missing. It was a great show each week. The problem was that it was shown at the same time as American Idol and there was very little promotion for the series which began at a very odd time in tv land. There has been a void in television since 24 went off the air, and the intrigue and action in Missing was equally good. We are not in your demographic of 18-49, but older people enjoy a good tv show, too! Why would you take such a good show off the air?… Read more »
I really can’t believe they cancelled this show. I can’t get my husband to watch alot of television but even he loved it. Ashley Judd was amazing. The script was exciting, energetic, and empowering. Whether or not the CIA really acts like it was portrayed or not, I don’t care. If it is on tv it is there for entertainment value, and I was more than entertained. ABC needs to figure out a way to bring this show back. Bring back good shows and cancel that reality show garbage.
Ok, Ok…maybe the ratings for a first season weren’t that great but come on…even Seinfeld got a second chance to build an audience. This show was perfect escape TV for all of us who are fed up with all the bad news and bickering politics. The drama certainly kept us on the edge of our seats and impatiently waiting for the next week’s episode. The cast was great, professional acting, and how about those lush locations showing us places most of us will probably never get to go. So…ABC…think again. You’ve left us hanging and wanting to find out what… Read more »
So sorry to hear the show has been cancelled… like others of my ABC favorites. I liked Ashley Judd’s portrayal of a strong, independent woman who would stop at nothing to protect her child. Missing had a fast-moving storyline that had room for expansion in future season(s). The low ratings could have something to do with the early time slot and multiple days offered. At the beginning I never knew quite when or at what time it was offered, then had a hard time with the early time slot. I am about ready to quit watching ABC as they keep… Read more »
Very disAppointed! Love seeing Ashley Judd play this role. This was a show me and my two daughters from 11-24 yrs old can watch together. This was our Thursday night time. I hope ABC will reconsider?
I am so disappointed. I just found out my favorite show is canceled. Missing had one of the best story lines on tv. It was new, fresh, intriguing, full of energy, appealling to so many. What went wrong? I agree with you C. M. that todays shows, show too many plastic women who can’t act, or shows that are reality based that frankly I could care less about. I am a big fan of Ashley Judd, and thought she portrayed a strong brilliant woman. I certainly hope ABC sees their mistake and gives the show another chance.
Please renew the show “Missing”. It is one of the few good shows on tv. It is so much better then some of that garbage ( reality shows, horror shows, cooking shows) that is out there now. It was nice to have something different and exciting to watch. Ashley Judd is such a good actress and this show was not given a chance. I hope you can reconsider and bring this show back.
I really enjoyed the show, and the finale left the script wide open. I honestly hope a cable network would pick the show up!
I thought Missing was a great show with strong, independent women characters which is where it went wrong. Today’s shows are riddled with anorexic, plastic women who cannot act. There main role today is to be a sex object to the leading male characters. There just isn’t a place for good shows anymore….its a different time and good acting from solid women actors is not welcome.
Time slot was a problem. I love Missing. Why didn’t they try it next year against “dreck” for the other networks instead of pitting it against American Idol, etc. CBS moved The Good Wife after it had to go up against Body of Proof. The Good Wife is one of the best network shows. I thought Missing should have been given another chance. They will probably some up with another lame sit com.
