Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

People didn’t realize it was even on…Might have been the 8:00 time slot. Not many adult shows are on at 8. Adults probably thought it was more of a family/kid show. Not so. Frankly, I didn’t mind the 8:00 time because it was an adrenelin rush every week. Took me an hour to calm down. Another season to get a crowd interested might have been a good plan. I am really disappointed. I had to dvr most weeks because of the time slot. Do those viewers get counted?
Missing was a great show that I looked forward to every week. Why couldn’t they cancel one of those silly reality shows that we have way too many of? I hope that another network picks it up.
Yeah……. like most who commented here, I would love ABC to bring back MISSING for a couple or more seasons! Hey, what’s not to love about the series? Ashley Judd is great! C’mon now ABC, you sure have other shows you could cancel….. Missing isn’t one of them, absolutely!
Last line should read: Too bad we don’t have the Chuck fans to bolster this show back into production.
Just watched the finale. I agree that there are a LOT of less worthy shows out there which cater to less refined (tabloid) tastes. I thought the show was very well written, loved the international cast members, the international scenery and yes, the strong character of Becca Winstone. Sean Bean always brings such tremendous gravity to his roles as well. The ending does leave open a continuation possibility, lots of potential for further character development, but alas, the suits in tv land who make funding decisions forget that other good series didn’t have a stellar rating to start, took time… Read more »
Finally a show about real scenarios and not just sex or stupid reality TV. It was an action packed show filled with substance that kept me watching week after week. What about changing the airtime?
WTF!!!!!!! What about those of us that had to DVR Missing? Please bring it back! PLEASE
I looked forward to the show every week, and I don’t have time to watch many shows. It was on much too early and it took me a while to find the time slot. I had to watch it from cable Primetime On Demand most of the time. I hope they reconsider and bring it back for more seasons. There is truly such a barrage of boring and inane programming these days, I can’t believe that a show that can actually hold your interest is cancelled.
It annoyed me from beginning to end. Totally predictable,I thought it might get better as time went on but it just became sillier and sillier. There’s a lot of women here who enjoyed it just because it had a female star. The ending was just TOO MUCH. For god’s sake let the family have some quality time together before their mother up and disappears. Who’s turn would it be in the 3rd season? The girlfriend? NO it just can’t go on like that.
More ridiculous unrealistic bull****, taking itself much too seriously.
Missing really needs to stay running! Please don’t cancel it! It has so much to it that is still left unanswered. It puts me on the edge of my seat and my heart races like crazy during each second, each episode. Even if the ratings are low, it doesn’t mean it’s worth cancelling. An average of 7 milli0n viewers is a hell of a lot better than most of the shows! I feel like adding more seasons will add more interest. No one’s giving it a chance just yet. They could always change their minds the more it goes on.… Read more »
Can’t believe Missing was cancelled, it was one of the best new shows that brought me back to ABC.
Bring missing back great season finale and great lead in for next season.
Bring back missing for a second season! A good show with lots of intrigue and beautiful scenery. It portayed a woman in a strong courageous role, and a mother devoted to her child. Most shows are about sex, have awful language and glorify homosexuals. For a change this show was mystery and intrigue without all of that-someone standing up for morals and showing character where everything around her was corrupt. Please bring it back and advertise it well so people will watch!!
tbee, I agree with you 101%!
Missing should be on for another season to pick up where they left off. It was a good show and there should be more like Missing out there. You should cancel other shows like the stupid Bachelor or Bachlorette… They SUck!! Everything on there is rigged or set up! Missing should return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Missing” is the best show that has been on TV for years. I so looked forward to it every week. Why cancel it?? There are so many other show that are terrible. It is sad to see a good show be cancelled.
“Missing” reminds me of “Alias” with the heroine as the leading star. This is well written and I really like the story and each episode is just very exciting to watch. Its so disappointing that ABC won’t renew this. I think that they should reconsider and just give it another season. Prob move it to another time slot or weekday. This is really one of the best shows I have watched. Attention: ABC executives…. please renew “Missing”…
