In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

this was my favourite show also!! too many reality shows that have nothing to do with reality….. bring christine back!!!!
i HATE that they cancelled this show!! this show was so funny! i kept waiting for it to start up! beyond bummed…stupid decision by CBS. go figure!
I can’t believe this show was canceled, my favorite show, couldn’t wait for it to start.
I’m so disappointed. i hope they will reconsider.
Who are the asses that made this decision????? we need more genuinely funny sitcoms like this …. I guess it’s a lot cheaper and brainless to add another stupid reality show. Get real get a life and a new job.
Didn’t realize how funny this show was until I started watching it on Lifetime. I stopped
watching primetime TV along time ago. Tired of all the (so called) reality shows. Luckily I
discovered this little jewel of a show. You people really don’t know what this country needs. Certainly not the rag trash put on these days. Could use more laughter like this show.
This is the funniest show I have ever seen. She is so typical for a woman in this position and makes every episode hilarious! She does things on TV no other woman has the guts to do and to me she is the NEW Lucy!
I hate ABC with a purple passion – whoever is in charge of cancelling great shows needs to be replaced with someone with a brain! This is not my first rodeo with the idiots! MY suggestion is don’t even get interested in anything ABC introduces because their track record is to drop GREAT shows with no conclusion – no attention to the polls – they are ALL idiots from hell!
bring it back! it is my second favorite show………close to #1….curb your enthusiasm
SO much better than all the freaky reality shows……..
Please change your vote on canceling this sitcom…We need comedy and this show is a riot! Is makes me laugh everytime I see it… Please bring it back. Pleeeeeeesssssssssse Connie
What the heck is going on? First I find out that Ghost Whisperer was cancelled and now Old Christine as well. Who’s the brains behind that decision? Old Christine is one of the funniest shows on television . A lot of women can relate to Christine. All the characters in that show worked so well together and were believable. It was hillarious to watch them all interact with each other. PLEASE BRING BACK OLD CHRISTINE AND GHOST WHISPERER.
This was my absolute favorite show on television! I’m so bummed. . .
I am so sick of reality shows, and sitcoms where everyone talks directly to us. I get enough of reality from life. Bring back a realistic show of a mom staying up all night to help with her kids mission project that we can laugh at. Or a mom that goes on a diet of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup and gains weight. What about a mom realistically feeling left out at her kids school by real meanie moms. This is stuff that real happens that is not fake and yes seeing it on tv we know we… Read more »
