In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

I can’t believe this show was canceled. With all the boring comedy shows, the network decides to cancel one of the most hilarious, zany comedies to come around in quite some time. I don’t think the network big wigs even know what they are doing. Why don’t they even ask the average person what they think. Someone should definitely bring this show back. It has so much to offer. Even my husband loves it, and he usually only watches history or military shows. BRING IT BACK!! BRING IT BACK!!
I’m sorry to say that I found this show in repeats and I absolutely love it. Hysterically funny! I can’t believe CBS didn’t market this more. It’s on the same level as Seinfeld for laugh out loud moments.
Please bring Christine back!!! Its the best show, so funny
I record every rerun, and I believe I’ve seen every episode. But I still watch at least two or more a day. Like someone above said, it lifts my spirit. I always feel better after watching these ultimate professionals work their magic. JLD’s commitment to the role deserves an Emmy for every season. She’s funnier than Lucy ever was. Her physicalization of the dialogue goes unmatched anywhere on any show ever. Funnier than Seinfeld, Friends, Cheers, Taxi and right up there with 2 1/2 Men. Sad day when this show got cancelled. How to end it? NEVER. Richie goes to… Read more »
This show was awesome,,,bring it back
I can’t believe this show was cancelled. It is hilarious. CBS definitely made a huge mistake.
My Mom, Aunt, Myself and afew good friends watch reruns every day together. hopefully some
network will realize we don’t all want to watch the “reality”BRING HER BACK!!
CBS made a huge mistake here! I love this show and I am saddened by it’s cancellation! I would like to smack those network ********!
I love that show! I am so disappointed about it being cancelled! BRING IT BACK!!!
Listen to Butch, he sounds big! I love this show, few shows make me laugh when I watch them alone, this was one of them!
Friends reruns used to be my favorite. Now I can’t get enough of New Adventures of Old Christine. It is so funny that when I feel down I watch a DVRd episode of it and feel so much better afterward. I actually got two other friends to start watching it and the too are hooked. It is one of the great ones out there! Laugh out loud funny. I wish they would bring it back!
This was and still is one of my favorite shows. Each member of the cast was just as funny as the other. They played off each other with perfection. What a sad day for TV when this show was trashed. Thank god for re-runs!!!
I am an African American Male, EX-Marine… BRING BACK THIS SHOW, PLEASE!
My husband and I started watching the show for the first time on Lifetime. What a funny sitcom! I haven’t laughed this much at a sitcom since Seinfeld, Friends, and Frasier went off the air. This show should have been a hit. Great writing. Some network should pick it up and put it in a good time slot.
I really miss this show. It was one of the funniest shows on tv and i looked forward to every new season. It’s very saddening to lose such a good show!
