In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

I watched this show as a first run and now watch every re-run. It is shameless that the type of junk on tv is renewed again and again (reality tv) and quality work is cancelled. This is truly the “dumbing down” of America. Bring them back!
Hated the end of Medium though and may not watch the re-runs because of it. That was cruel to the fans.
It’s not too late!!!!! ABC pick this show up!!! I loved it and watching the reruns makes me love it more. So what if it takes a year off and then comes back… That will just make it cooler and more hyped up when it comes back!!!
Omg!! I love this show what a BIG MISTAKE!!!
Omg please I miss this Sitcom what were you thinking !!!!!!!!! man for real it was a really good sitcom…
i just wrote cbs when i found out today…these networks must be loopy…i’m sitting there laughing my a– off….even in reruns they are just as funny….i scan the sattelite channels looking for the reruns….i can’t believe no network on tv/cable has seen the merit in this series when most of the other show are really junk..
PLEASE SOMEBODY PICK UP THIS SHOW……………IT COULD BE ANOTHER FRAZER
THE CAST IS PERFECT….PLEASEEEEEEEE
I’ve been watching the reruns, and it is the funniest show I’ve ever seen!! Julia is the best! Will they ever bring it back?
This show was one of my favorites and I now DVR all the reruns. I think it is such a shame that not only was it cancelled, but that it wasn’t given the right to have a final episode. It was unfair to the actors and to the viewers.
LOVE this show! SO funny!! Cant believe it was cancelled!
I just started watching the reruns of The New Adventures of Old Christine and I haven’t laughed like that at a show in sooooo long, and I agree with others that it is way funnier than Two and a Half Men, I cannot believe it was cancelled, I just learned this today as I never watched the show when it was actuallly on, this is a very sad day for me.
Christine is the new I Love Lucy, exactly! The chemistry of the cast is so perfect that even my 16 year old son enjoys watching with me. He grabs the remote and starts the show and we sit down and laugh for 30 minutes together – what better way to bond with a teenager through laughter. I dvr every episode and would really enjoy seeing this show returned to TV – great entertainment.
This was my new I Love Lucy!
I watch the reruns and even dvr them, also buying the series. I thought it was great to have a show that showed a single mom in all of her glory, and not so glory! This show was not afraid to tell it like it is, for the love of family, friends, wine, men, and of course herself!
As a single mom, I am missing drinking my glass of wine and busting a gut watching this. I can’t believe they didn’t even have a final episode. Please bring Christine back!
Actually it great show. The ensemble had a great chemistry. I thought it was funnier than 2-n-half men.
I agree this was one of the best sitcoms and I can’t believe it was cancelled. The ensemble of characters is fabulous and the show itself is hilarious! Please bring back Old Christine. I love sitcoms and very few that are airing today compare to this show.
I think ABC should have picked up the show. I think it was one of the best sitcoms on TV.
Agreed!!!! THis show was the best CBS had in a while. ABC you made a bad choice.
This show is a “RIOT”!!!
I laugh every time I see the re-runs no matter how many time I watch them.
The show was on at the wrong time on CBS. (the lead in shows were no that good).
If the show had been before or after “tWO AND A hALF mEN” ,IT WOULD HAVE HAD BETTER SUCCESS.
