In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

I loved this show. They get you watching a show and then just cancel it. No ending even it just dissappeared and i was looking forward to the new season. It was a great show to watch after work. Thank god I keep the episodes on the dvr.
I’m soooo sad! I LOVE THIS SHOW! This is soooo lame!!!
Love love love this show. It will be missed. Wish someone would have picked it up!!!
I am so sad this was not picked up by another network. Christine is sooooo funny. The entire cast was hilarious. TV Land should air it now that they have new shows.
Damn shame, loved the show and the characters.
this was one of the Best shows on television. i always looked forward to wednesday nights for Christine. it seems that networks only want reality television where it costs nothing to make, and has no stars in them. This cast was full of wonderful characters, and people you can call Entertainers. Come on, let there be a station with guts out there that will produce a real show again. A loyal fan, always, please bring show back
What a damn shame it was one of our favorites and we always looked forward to watching the show and never miss a single one. Shame on ABC, please bring it back. Put it on a cable station as thats where most of our entertainment comes from with their excellant show. Does any one remember not too long ago when we had good tv and the shows ended in spring and came back in fall? Thre is so much garbage on tv these days and nothing to watch but cable is the place these days. Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Men… Read more »
This is horrible, I love this show! Every women like it or not can relate with Christine. The network must have their heads up their butts to think that this show needed to be cancled. Everyone of my friends loves this show. Even my husband thinks this show is a crack up! Sad!!
I LOVED Christine. It was the one show that I could count on to make me laugh. I am not happy with ANY of the shows left running on all of the networks these days so I no longer watch. I have sadly given up prime time TV and do work from home at that time. You know TV shows have to be pretty y bad when your audience would rather do work than watch!
Very upsetting! The whole entire cast was a hoot! To bad!
This is sad………..WHY would this show be canceled. Finally a tv sitcom that made everyone laugh. These kind of show help people escape the everyday hussle of reality. We need laughter in our lives………not more crime shows that are sad anddepressing!!!!! Don’t the people watching tv have a says so in what is aired. How do you strt a campaing to keep this show on the air??????
One of the few shows that mafr me laugh out loud. Ranks up there with the best comedy shows. Julie Louis-Dreyfus’s timing is perfect and she is a great physical comedienne. Wednesdays will be terrible without Christine. Why is there no campaign to keep this show on the air!?!?!?!
I loved this show—it was the best on TV–what a shame
NOT AGAIN!!!
Every time I really enjoy a TV show it is canceled… shame on CBS & ABC … this was the best sitcom on TV. Forget 2 1/2 men… it got too nasty. This was funny and enjoyable and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is great! Too Bad!!
Please someone give it another chance!
I loved Christine. It was one of the funniest shows on TV. The entire cast was genius. What a shame that it was canceled and won’t be picked up by another network. This show had the makings to become a sitcom classic, which it already is to me! I will greatly miss this show. It would have fit in great with ABC’s Wednesday night line up! Hopefully someone will come to their senses…
