In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

BRING the NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE —– back!!!!!!
Just realized this show was cancelled! this is terrible! BOOOO!
please, any network please pick up this show for the sake of comedie, we cannot have another cop show (or doctors…)
NBC give your head a shake and ABC you loose.
This was one of the funniest shows on TV. So much nonsense on and they take this really funny show off. Its a shame, a real shame.
TNAOOC was honestly one of the wittiest & genuinely funny shows I’ve ever has the pleasure to watch!! Please bring it back! I’m so depressed I wanna see what happens dang it!! Boo CBS! & boo ABC! Big mistake!!
This is one of the funniest shows on TV . It’s a shame it is cancelled! Now what will CBS show, all they have are the CSI’s and even those aren’t that great!! ABC should definitely have picked it up!
Such a shame … best show on TV, I am seriously considering not watching CBS anymore. When they cancel Big Bang, that will be it for me. Too bad they don’t listen to the fans. Another network should pick it up and those who canceled it should be fired.
I’m disgusted that this show was dropped from the schedule. I tthought it was hilarious! I looked forward to each episode — Christine was a great character. I agree with the other Denise — how can shows like “The Bachelor” go on and on, but a wonderful comedy like this gets the boot? Goes to show you that the TV execs are not concerned about what the public really wants.
I loved this show! All the characters were well written. Very funny show. How do shows like The Bachelor stay on but this is cancelled?
very upset that this show is done. it was def one of my favorite shows and im goin to miss it dearly. i looked forward to the nites that it was on. now what am i goin to watch??? very upset….very very upset bout this
Big mistake to cancel the show it was the best sitcom on tv
One of the very few shows on TV that I would bother to watch and keep track of… my all time favorite show. I am giving up on television.
Hands down the best sitcom on tv, so of course, cancel it. Most of the sitcoms are so lame, they are embarrassing to watch. The characters on “Old Christine” were so excellent. I am heartsick that no one picked this show up. CBS sucks for canceling it and ABC sucks for not picking it up.
Not again I loved “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. It seems only horrible reality shows about mindless people are in these days. I wish once we could enjoy a wholesome program like NAOC I will really miss it!
